20 Songs Where Rappers Got Outshined by Guests (1991-2013)

Saw this on-line and I thought it could yield some decent discussion. Feel free to list any other tracks where a guest outshined the main show.

Nas on Raekwon's Verbal Intercourse.
Nas on Mobb Deep's Eye For A Eye.

I knew the Kendrick Lamar verse would be on there. I'm going to listen to the Frank Ocean verse on the record he took over.

It was interesting to see that a lot of the rappers that were outshined outshined other rappers in other songs on the list such as Jay Z and Andre 3000

Franco Pepe Kalle 08-26-2013 03:21 PM

It would make sense with Mr. Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre. Dre is the producer type and Dogg (now Snoop Lion) was the rapper for the song.

Janszoon 08-26-2013 05:01 PM

I thought "Snappin’ & Trappin’' was kind of odd choice given that it's probably the worst song on Stankonia.

Yeah thought the same tbh.

RZA on GZA's 4th Chamber. I know they're both in Wu but RZA's verse is the best thing about that track for me.

Sticky Fingaz on Eminem - Remember Me?

FrigginParadox 08-26-2013 06:23 PM

hmm i dont agree with only some of em.. imma think of some verses

I actually really like Ghostface's verse on there, so subdued and all his ancient world allusions make him seem like a god. RZA defintely rages on that track though. GZA sounds great too, i just love that song.

The list is pretty sharp though, except for the Schoolboy Q drop, that verse was god awful, it's the reason i don't listen to him to this day besides the fact that anything else i heard didn't impress either.

djchameleon 08-27-2013 12:20 AM

When I saw this title, I thought about Renegade and of course it was on the list.

The Batlord 08-27-2013 10:31 AM

How couldn't they mention R.A. the Rugged Man on Jedi Mind Tricks "Uncommon Valor"? The first time I heard that I just got chills. One of the best verses of all time. Vinnie Paz is cool and all, but R.A. ****s on him.

Cuthbert 08-27-2013 01:20 PM

Nicki Minaj on Monster.

Mr Mothafkin Exquire on Poisionous thoughts by Czarface
Kendrick Lamar on Collard Greens by Schoolboy Q

Even if you consider it pretty average you can't say her verse didn't stand out amongst the others.

SGR 08-28-2013 06:02 AM

Any song where Redman gets a guest verse, he outshines everyone else on the track. No exceptions.

butthead aka 216 08-28-2013 07:34 AM

redman = criminally under rated

saw him live with meth and he is sick

does anyone else not really understand or think its a big deal when a guest rapper has a better verse than the rapper whose song it is?? like ive seen ppl all 'omg he ****ted on him' but im like this isnt a battle rap lol.

i mean if a rapper asks someone to be on his track he got respect for him anyways as a rapper, i dunno i dont get it

Aye, but that song was designed to get Minaj over and to garner her more exposure, at the time that track was released she had no solo album out, which she references on Monster and she's given by far the largest portion of the track in which to exhibit herself as well as clearly the most interesting part of the track (Production wise)
There are very little to no added sound affects or bass drops on Jay or Kanye's verses and they only kick a modest few bars, Rick Ross only got 4 bars for example lol.
She's obviously going to outshine the others because the track was intended to showcase her abilities and make her stand out.

djchameleon 08-28-2013 02:00 PM

Rick Ross only got 4 bars because he was just doing an intro.
I don't think they set it up that way to showcase her on the track.
She was already getting tons of features before the Monster track so she didn't need exposure either.

Goofle 08-28-2013 02:06 PM

The clear winner is eXquire on Oh Hail No.

14232949 08-28-2013 02:41 PM

Here's a sleeper which could be the best verse of last year, perhaps one of Andre 3000's best verses of all time, yet because it was on a TI record, most of you probably missed out.

The track's 'Sorry' and the Andre 3K verse is just special.

wow yea that was sick

whole song is sick. ti impressed me with that first verse i wonder if he has that flow a lot?? never listened to much of him cause i never liked that slow southern flow i assumed he had in all his songs

I can i am and i will. They took a part of the beat away for her verse, so that's kind of cheating, and Kanye still sounded nicer than her, in his own way. I mean, we could have put Wayne in her spot and had the same kind of effect as far as i'm concerned.

Slow southern flow in all his songs? Have you never heard "B.O.B.". I thought that was one of their most well-known songs.

Surell 08-28-2013 08:32 PM

I think he meant TI maybe

I'm not familiar with TI but everything about that song except Andre 3000 sounded really schmaltzy to me.

Bizzy is my favorite rapper and all but Spoke-In-Wordz verse i always repeat when i listen to this song

Fab and Weezy on "She don't put it down like you" with Joe Budden. Joe Budden can't rap. I don't know how he gets money? Good for him though, I just don't get it though.

it's probably that Def Jam streetfighter game he was in, and all the saps that buy it (AKA me).

I agree!

Joe Budden makes money from doing club appearances and he was lucky enough to be included in Slaughterhouse where all the other rappers outshine him so hard on EVERY SINGLE SONG that he is a part of.

Armstrong 10-14-2013 02:46 AM

I'd say that Sam Dew totally outshined Wale in this song:
His voice is so nice and his vocals really added some softness to the song, I love it!
