My favorites from this album are Golden, Whatever (I loveeee this song and the video is cute), Cross My Mind, and Family Reunion (I love the 70's soul vibe)

I really respect Jill Scott because she is really sincere as an artist. She writes about her experiences, life and feelings. I wish more artists out now were more like her. She deserves more props as an artist and a singer. She is also a good performer as well.
I used to have Golden as part of my voicemail message. I may have to go and give her debut a listen but I just love this album to pieces. I think it was a great pick.

She actually won a Grammy for Cross My Mind and also another one for her feature on Lupe's Daydreaming. She might be underrated as far as exposure but in the music industry/world she gets her credit. She gets nominated and has been nominated fairly often.

You can also get the next album pick if you want.

^ She get's nominations but she gets robbed. "The Light of the Sun" her latest album did not get ONE Grammy nomination and that was her biggest selling album yet and did really well on the R&B charts. They always rob her....

Brandy's debut....I LOVE Brandy...she has released solid R&B after solid R&b albums and still does not get her proper respect. I think she's pretty too and she's really humble.

Brandy-Brandy (1994)

1. Movin' On
2. Baby
3. Best Friend
4. I Wanna Be Down
5. I Dedicate (Pt. 1)
6. Brokenhearted
7. I'm Yours
8. Sunny Day
9. As Long As You're Here
10. Always On My Mind
11. I Dedicate (Pt. 2)
12. Love Is On My Side
13. Give Me You
14. I Dedicate (Pt. 3)

^ Gotta check this out and show Brandy some love!

This is one of my all time favorite albums ever!!! It is a "go to" for me for any occasion.

This is definitely one of the best albums from the 90's, no question and really helped in popularizing the new jack swing sound.

Brandy slays vocally on this album and the girl wasn't even older than 18. She is really underrated vocally and discography wise. She has a lot of personality and emotion in her singing that a lot of the current pop singers can not even convey. Her catalog is also very diverse musically.

Highlights: I Wanna Be Down, Best friend, Baby, Sunny Day

Most of the singles on this album were most of the strongest cuts on this album. I love the funky production on the songs.

I Wanna Be Down CLASSIC!!!! Brandy got a handful of classics, she needs more respect!!!

I listened to this album the day you posted it but I was only half paying attention to it. I'm going to listen again so I can do a short little write up.

I do remember "I Wanna Be Down" coming on though and being like oh snaps I remember this. This was before her whole "The Boy Is Mine" period with Monica!

Speaking of Monica, we should probably listen to one of her albums next.

^ Yea we should! I love me some Monica. Its actually funny you mentioned her because I have been jamming to her song "The First Night" for the last couple of days lol The funk is so addictive. Monica is another one that can sanggg and has a fairly descent catalog with a few classics but doesn't get much respect. They both started off real young like 13-14 making hits but don't get credit. They deserve a lot more credit. I think its because they don't dress half naked and their music is more urban/R&B.

Monica - The Boy Is Mine

"Street Symphony"
"The Boy Is Mine" (duet with Brandy)
"Ring da Bell"
"The First Night"
"Misty Blue"
"Angel of Mine"
"Gone Be Fine" (featuring Outkast)
"Inside"
"Take Him Back"
"Right Here Waiting" (featuring 112)
"Cross the Room"
"I Keep It to Myself"
"For You I Will"

I'm going to go with her second album. We can start listening to this and I'll post my little blurb about Brandy a little bit later on.

Very Underrated R&B album here!!! Monica does not get enough credit as a singer. I love the emotion she puts in her singing and I love her tone.

Its a pretty solid album, not to many weak cuts

Highlights:
Angel of Mine (her signature song),
For You I Will (love the emotion she puts in this, great ballad),
The Boy Is Mine (classic),
The First Night (one of my top favorites from the album-very funky),
Ring Da Bell (Funky soulful cut, it has a Mary J Blidge "My Life" era vibe)
Misty Blue (sucker for the Doo Wop production and her soulful vocals),
Inside (great vocal performance),
Street Symphony- (Funky, hip hop production but its eerie and haunting; I love her vocals as well)

Overall, I think it has a lot of funky and soulful 90's production. Monica slays vocally.
