Respond to this observation of the state of hip hop.
In today's scene, there are only three kinds of rap and hip hop; psychedelic/trip hop, club music, and stoner rap.

Wrong. How can hip-hop be dead if Wu-Tang is forever? ;)
|
There's still quite a scene of conscientiousness rap. Guys like Immortal Technique, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and to a lesser extent Aesop Rock & Killer Mike.
Guys who talk about varying relevant political and social issues. |
I don't think bands like Clipping and Death Grips would fit very well under any of those 3 labels. You have to account for the small, but growing, trend of abrasive hip hop.
|
I remember when Aesop Rock + Kimya Dawson released a Folk-Rap album a few months ago. Remember it well.
|
And where does Big K.R.I.T fall into all of this?
|
the scene you are describing just seems more to be about what you are choosing to listen to as opposed to what's really out there.
I wouldn't put Joey Badass into any of those categories or Fred The Godson |
Wrong like any type of music in todays state of hip hop there is
EVERYTHING /thread that's why these days im kinda hate it u ask a person so what type of music do u like and his answer Everything ... so hey I guess more people are open these days |
^ whenever someone gives you that answer Norg, ask if they listen to brutal death metal or avant garde free-jazz? They say 'err..no' you say, well obviously you don't listen to everything.
That'll shut them up. |
