These guys are killing it right now

Cuthbert 07-15-2015 07:00 PM

Does anybody know what's happening with Meow The Jewels? It's taking ages for what I assumed would just be a joke project.

IMO they should fuck it off, especially if it's holding up RTJ3. It's going to be shit anyway. Shit idea really.

Run the Jewels Unveil Meow the Jewels Track "Meowrly" | News | Pitchfork

It's actually pretty good, not as amazing as the original, but I suprisingly works as the beat.

Goofle 07-19-2015 07:36 AM

Mehhhh

DwnWthVwls 07-19-2015 07:56 AM

Not very many recognizable cat noises..

Justthefacts 07-19-2015 11:30 PM

I just hope this is the birth of nip-hop.

Cuthbert 09-17-2015 01:55 PM

Run the Jewels Share Just Blaze "Oh My Darling Don't Meow" Remix From Meow the Jewels | News | Pitchfork

Still not convinced this is anything other than a shit idea and a massive waste of time.

DwnWthVwls 09-18-2015 01:53 PM

Not impressed with the use of cat sounds tbh.

Black Francis 09-18-2015 04:04 PM

Really? so El-p is already old news? who's the new flavor of the month then?

I like El-p and killer mike. Goofie turned me on to them and all ive heard from them so far has been top notch.

Lucem Ferre 09-18-2015 10:24 PM

Wait, so they don't bump that **** in the future?

Lucem Ferre 09-18-2015 10:25 PM

If I were El-P I'd sell out too. Sell out shows.

Justthefacts 09-19-2015 12:51 AM

They've made two solid records and when I saw them they put on a fun show. No complaints here

I'm not saying they are bad by any stretch. However, I grew up resonating with the def jux el-p, now thematically, he's more about smoking weed and ****ing--which is cool, and im sure relatable to a much wider audience.

Ever since he hooked up with killer mike its been down hill in my view. Targeting Ronald Reagen? Really? Who cares anymore? They get to propagate this collective, conscious, political minded image in the most diluted and unfocused manner, hence brining zach de la rocha into the mix.

I'm poor at gathering my thoughts, but it's almost like the hip hop equivalent to green day in pandering to a younger demographic---especially caucasians who still think any association with a black person provides some type of hip hop credentials.

It's just a trip seeing these guys in jack daniels ads and on espn now.

Not bad points and I even sort of agree with you about Killer Mike. I feel like El runs circles around Mike as far as intellect goes. And ultimately their collaborative social commentary comes off as a little half-baked because of this.

And as someone (like maybe everyone?) who also came up on Def Jux it's disappointing that this had to happen in order to break out El-P.

That said, I think Killer Mike is a dope rapper with a much cooler voice and delivery than El, and that alone justifies the collaboration. As for selling out, I actually think selling Jack Daniels is a cool thing to do, I would do it myself if I could, so no argument there. And being on Nas's label (distributed by Sony) seems like something El would have always done if he had the opportunity.

Mostly I disagree that El sold out because I feel like a major consistent theme in his lyrics is his determination to stay in control of his music and his life, which seems to be precisely where he is today.

DwnWthVwls 09-20-2015 11:40 AM

Most artists are out to make a living performing and selling albums. I don't consider it selling out if you make it big and work with major labels. Good for them. It's only selling out if they put out whatever their "bosses" tell them to and stop making their music. Seems like there is this double standard where regular listeners can enjoy Nike and big name brands but as soon as those brands endorse or collaborate with your favorite indie/underground artist then the artist becomes a sell out. They're regular people too!

Black Francis 09-20-2015 11:48 AM

^ Right. Any of us in their shoes would sell out too.

LoathsomePete 09-20-2015 11:51 AM

Wait, is Run The Jewels considered mainstream?

Goofle 09-20-2015 12:28 PM

They aren't. Some exposure on mainstream outlets doesn't make you mainstream.

Wait what? So you think he sold out, why? I think he's still making the music that he wants to make.

:p:

What i meant was that even if some ppl consider him a sellout, i can't blame him for doing it.

Personally i just like his music but i haven't kept up with his career that much so idk if he indeed sold out. maybe he just got to be so popular he's crossing over from an underground artist to a mainstream one.

Frownland 09-20-2015 04:39 PM

I don't think that El-P has sold out musically. The image building around his music and the gimmicky stuff is where that comes in. It attracts more fans than the music alone would, which is a good thing I guess because it hasn't affected the music too heavily. With that being said, I'd rather see a new solo El-P album than a new RTJ record.

How has he sold out musically? I honestly feel like the only shortcomings with his new material that might suggest that is lazy lines from Killer Mike ("oodles of noodles", cliche narrative on "Early", etc.).

Farris 11-28-2015 01:29 AM

Which album contain you overall Famous Lyrics..

djchameleon 08-24-2016 04:02 PM

Excellent video even though it's a feature track from DJ Shadow's album.

Run the Jewels Release RTJ3: Listen | Pitchfork

AAWWWWWWWWWWWW SHHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTT

Frownland 12-25-2016 12:13 AM

It's now clear that El-P and Boots need to do a full collaborative album.

Final Verdict: Great album. As a whole it's as good as RTJ2, but it has some of their best tracks to date for sure. Back half of the album is strong as ****, it's almost like a few of the tracks on the first half of the album were cut from RTJ2.

Key 12-25-2016 01:05 AM

Will listen soon

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 12-25-2016 03:20 AM

I'm so ****ing happy about this, Christmas is like 6252627 times better because of it.

djchameleon 12-25-2016 03:32 AM

Yeah, I woke up and look at my phone and ended up seeing that it was released. I immediately came here to tell the good news but I'm late I guess.

Going to listen to it soon after this video I'm watching.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 12-25-2016 05:25 AM

this is so ****ING good

we're long overdue for a solo El project... please let 2017 be the year.

Cuthbert 12-25-2016 05:38 AM

How does it compare to previous albums?

These guys are the coolest guys in Hip-Hop. Saw their little vine on the Twitter account :)

High hopes for this one.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 12-25-2016 05:46 AM

too early to say atm to be honest but I feel like it's going to be on par with 2 if not better. El-P's production just gets better and better as does their chemistry on tracks together.

the track with Danny on it is is a big one >>>

Cuthbert 12-25-2016 06:36 AM

Thought there were two?

Downloaded on mobile. Can't unzip the fucker.

Key 12-25-2016 05:33 PM

New album is a solid 9.5/10, maybe a 10/10.

Goofle 12-25-2016 06:35 PM

I kinda need to listen to this.

Key 12-25-2016 06:45 PM

You need to right now.

Thelonious Monkey 12-25-2016 06:47 PM

It's not on spotify, all the tracks are showing but we can't listen to it fml

Frownland 12-25-2016 07:23 PM

It's available for me. Try playing Spotify in the web browser and using hola.org to get around the regional restrictions.

Thelonious Monkey 12-25-2016 07:26 PM

OMG RJT 3 has just released for us, **** YES

djsmuv 12-31-2016 09:08 AM

all i can say is
WOW - new records too fly

Goofle 07-25-2017 04:51 PM

EL-P should be releasing a solo album this year according to his 5 year rule.

Or has he sold out to making music for the mainstream?
