Edit: Obviously that was a joke, but to be fair, I think we're (some) are asking a lot. Shockingly, people who've dumped countless hours into race relations and its "philosophy" think everyone should be on the same level as they are. Its not the case and most folks aren't in the business of spending every waking moment dumping their time, effort, and energy into what appears to be a fruitless, illusion of progress. Can we get back to talk about the ****ing music now instead of taking this Lounge-level bull**** out of the Lounge? I agree with DJ that her character voice is a little grating, I often thing "who are you even pretending to be with that affectation?" But Tom Waits once said we become who we are by imitating our idols poorly. I can't begin to say who she's imitating, but I can say that its poorly. I get the impression listening to what little I have of her that she only studied one of the elements of music, and not the rest - specifically song-craft. Its to the point that I don't think she's interested in how the song goes, I think she's more worried about it "sounding legit" (i.e. that she's not a fake). She apepars to get so caught up in that aspect that it makes what she's doing really out of place. She's like a Photoshop rapper. You're in the song, fine, but wrap the edges bro. You're not on Geosites anymore. Last edited by TheBig3; 06-25-2014 at 08:12 AM. |

What I have yet to understand about arguments like this is how an artist's personality and life choices change what their music sounds like to some people. Michael Jackson is a great musician. R Kelly is a great musician. I wouldn't put Iggy in the same talent category as either one of them, but she definitely has some jams. She is an idiot and a garbage human, but that doesn't make her sonically sound any worse, and this discussion has certainly lost focus on her musicianship. |

You might have missed out on it. I may look up the thread for you but not now. There was an entire thread discussing whether people are able to separate an artist's work with their personal life. It seemed like a majority of people cant. I usually can but my issues with Iggy is her going around rapping "I'm the realest" when it sounds so forced and fake. She has to be aware that most people notice her packaging and she is trying to convince people that she is more authentic than she really is. Her Becky/interview voice comes out during the little mess up at the beginning.

There are people who can separate the music from the musician, people who can't, and people who choose not to. This is something that we all differ in and to criticize people for being offended by the things someone says while their in the public eye is plain idiotic. You honestly sound silly thinking that everyone MUST do what you do and separate the music from the musician. Guess what. I hate everything about Iggy Azalea and so do many other people. This site never ****ing changes man. So many of the members here are mad pretentious for no reason.

Nothing I've heard so far from her which is like 4 songs is particularly catchy or grabbing. I don't mind her character, but that's really all I can say...
