I really like Kool AD's dumb/intelligent dichotomy. Too often it leans heavily toward the dumber, less inspired, hyper-reference, "based" side, but when he chooses to say stuff earnestly, it comes together like the middle of a venn diagram. It's honestly something refreshing to listen to.
Lyrically he has plenty to say: Quote:

Das Racist and their parts have just kind of alienated me for what I've heard them praised for. They seem like if my white pretentious northern friend Neil were a rapper, which I very much disapprove of. I will listen soon though because dat ain't fair.

I guess it's like the hyper-reference (as you mentioned), or the seeming snarkiness, or the fact that they got props for getting on a Ghostface track and saying "Queens boulevard/Kierkegaard," and so on. It's not really the praise, just the things I've heard about them and the little snippets I have heard. It seems like uber hipster rap, all dry and sardonic and a little condescending, which I guess people probably associate with OF and others so shucks.

your correct in every respect, even omitting the more party-bro ish aspects.
Still, I like the political and social messages delivered in a joking self-aware style and they never fall into the trappings of preaching. Their main producer mike finito has a early el-p-from-company flow grind with his beats that i like. I like the hipster rap that has roots in new york aesthetics as oppose to hipster rap from say...rhymesayers, which simply has no edge. |

New York is a good hip hop city...
I'll try his new tape, it actually sounded kinda interesting from what I read, and he sounds more laid back than them other dudes in the group. I seem to hear less about him than himanshu, and if there's another person, them too.
