I understand the guy isn't Tupac, for godsakes but how some people don't enjoy the beats and the tongue-in-cheek humor - its beyond me.

He comes across really generic and Everlast is a good comparison. I can barely listen to Spearhead or Michael Franti when it comes to this overall sound. But I enjoyed Home by Spearhead it was a good album much in the same vein as this stuff. You don't need to understand the hate its a two way street.

I haven't had any interest in Spearhead since the 21st century began but I will say I saw them in concert around 97 or so and they seriously put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen.

I certainly agree. Franti is a good frontman and they have a nice laid back vibe. The backup singer for the live shows on the Home tour was outstanding also. Franti was a really decent guy in person also, he played a little tiny indie type outdoor mall before their performance at Galaxy Theater called the Lab and he was a really cool dude. Even gave me a free ticket to see them so I only had to buy one for my date. And to top it off Digable Planets opened and they knock it outta the park also. Too bad you didn't live in the same city we could of carpooled to alot of shows in the 90's.

the heist album is just incredible. really broke down many controversial topics in rap.

the fact they did it independently. its impressive.

This says more about you than it does the artist. What does it matter what other people think of the music?

You found someone you think is universally disliked and used them to prove your point. But your point sucks. You should know that you sound like every other affected hipster hanging out pretending to like "talented" music because you're "intelligent."

It says to me you use music poorly. You're one-dimensional. And specifically to hip-hop, you're just as bad as any 16 year old making that statment - you both think there is a "right way" to do hip hop and it gives away a gross and fundamentally misinformed position on music.

People who really love music find something worthwhile in every style out there unless it lacks effort. But when someone makes music they like and puts their heart into it, theres never a completely bad offering.

This thread has been great for me because it continues to show how Internet-Suburban the site is. Do yourself a favor PL and listen to things outside of your comfort zone. You'll appreciate it someday. And thats what this site is for anyway.

Edit: Holy Christ, that kid in the orange and black sweater IS Musicbanter. We finally have a ****ing mascot.
