Yeah, Maanky doesn't let facts get in the way of a bad argument. Also, I think he's projected your feelings of race into this. People who find hip-hop "hooligans" (my ancestors are insulted, by the way, you Scottish ****) distasteful aren't telling their granddaughters "thank heavens for the second coming of vanilla ice."

Whatever the case, this is some pretty bad music that you've posted. Perhaps "it is dull, mostly so bad that it verges into unlistenable territory" is not a good enough argument for you and your people but it's all I've got at the moment

They do however hate your Irish slurs. The Irish ones anyway. I think I like music like this and Ke$ha more because it really turns the screws of people who just suck at life and can only hear this music and assume its the theme songs of the kids who took their lunch money in middle school. If you folks would stop having sex with black-clad community theater grips, you might actually enjoy life. This sort of music, to me, is a great to turn on and then - when you see people who are cringing - know ahead of time that they're the sort of people who bring up the gender-wage gap at parties when everyone is just trying to forget about their problems. Its music, you god damn nerds. Stop reading **** like it has to be your graduate thesis.

Its a weak argument that attacks the person, not the point.
Just admit you've lost and I won't set you on fire.

I first heard of Macklemore a few years ago and always thought he had some decent material. His biggest problem was he could never get a full length album out because of his drug problems. It was never his lack of hooks or "image".
And the horns in 'Thrift Shop' are righteous. Anyways, he's got plenty to say in these two older tracks I'm most keen of:

My curiosity about your ethnic heritage was just a side note, since you brought it up. Maybe get back to me about either of those things when you're in graduate school?

Big3 I have no idea what has wound you up, perhaps you're this guys biggest fanboy or something, I don't know why it's so hard for you to comprehend that there are people out there who don't like gimmicky try-hard pop rappers.
The track Thrift Shop is like a Weird Al Yankovic B-side, the lyrics are dumb, his attempts at humour are lame and the whole thing smacks of falsity. I'm not a fan of parody tracks when they're done well, I prefer either serious material or lighter material that is either one of the following; fun, clever, catchy, relatable or memorable. The Thrift Shop song is not any of the qualities in my eyes. Maybe if I was a suburban kid who thinks that The Lonely Island are hysterical then I could get behind this, but I'm not so I don't get it. I assume Macklemore's fans are the same people who rate Hoodie Allen. It's hip-hop music for people who don't like hip-hop music. |
