Hip hop albums WORTH analyzing?
Okay, so I've been getting into a lot of new albums recently and some of them have very intricate lyrics that really reward reading into and deciphering the lyrics. What are some albums that you guys think are worth analyzing?
Some albums I have analyzed and found it worth it: Aesop Rock - Labor Days Aesop Rock - Skelethon Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus GZA - Liquid Swords GZA - Legend of the Liquid Sword Nas - Illmatic :) |
Mr. Lif—I, Phantom

Honestly, The Money Store has a lot more lyrical depth to it than most people give it credit for. You could name any EL-P album as well.

Thanks Janz! I haven't checked out any of Lifs stuff yet.
And yeah, I have the Money Store, haven't analyzed the lyrics yet, but you're right, that is a crazy dark album, will check it out How bout some old school (mid 90s maybe) hip hop albums with worthy lyrics? |

Are we just naming albums here?

Pulled out some dusty boxes yesterday and dusted off Jazzmatazz for another whirl. I gotta say the collaborations between Donald Byrd and GURU are some of my favorite rap collabs.
