Rolling Stone Magazine announces "The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time"
What do you think of the following list? I'm not surprised to say it's a pretty poor selection.
The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time | Rolling Stone |
I could never go through that using the RS website. Anybody got a typed up list?
|
Post it. I want to discourage their list-making marketing tactic by not giving them a hit.
|
A top two of Rappers Delight and The Message. How inspired.

Rolling Stones: The 50 Best hip Hop Songs Of All Time by Carsten Jacobsen on Spotify
Press play then spotify should open up if you've installed it and that's the list in reverse order. |
Wow, big surprise. Not.
|
Rolling Stone releases extremely generic list of songs—shocking.
|
This list is interesting. I think some people would not agree with this list.
|
B.O.B number one? Push it number 5? ummm....
|
Does anyone still take Rolling Stone magazine seriously?
After all these years?? ??? |
There's a bunch of songs I do like on that list. Other than that I don't give any credit to Rolling Stone for ever making a semi-decent greatest list, this no exception.

B.O.B should have been much higher, Push It should never have existed. |
I think making a list with the best artists or albums is rational, But trying to collect the best 50 hip-hop songs is an impossible thing for me!

Did anyone else catch 'In da Club' at #20? I've actually been a pretty consistent proponent of that song being pretty decent since it gets **** on so often by others, but it belongs nowhere near a top 100 rap songs list, let alone 50.

Also, that list was way too 80's centric, but maybe that's just a reflection of my personal dislike for most 80's rap |
yeah the list is pretty simple and predictable. its like a list someone put together if they only listened to the radio and not even any of the artist albums... im happy i saw flava in ya ear and scenario in it tho
|
B.O.B should not be on this list. He is a studio tool.
He used to make bruno-mars style soft rock except with an acoustic guitar. You can't find the videos anymore because its all been deleted but i remember seeing it on tv. Changed himself into a rapper and bob is a retarded name |

ill hop off the soapbox then |
Is Aesop or EL-P on here?

I'm genuinely surprised MC Hammer didn't make the list. The Rolling Stone is a bunch of out-of-touch irrelevant 50 somethings writing articles about music they don't and will never understand.

I assumed not. Surely Madvillain/MF DOOM? |

Seriously? Surely they would at least attempt to scan through RYM to pick up on something reasonably unique? Fuckers.

I think you're overestimating Rolling Stone. This list is strictly a Jay-Z/Eminem/Public Enemy/Run DMC level of research. |
yeah your waaaaaaaaaaay overestimating rolling stone. id be surprised if they knew who DOOM is :p
|
what does rolling stone got aganist MF DOOM ..?????? its like he does not exist to them have they ever rated his albums ..???
|
I've never really seen them take on Doom, i don't know if they had back in the day. They're not too in touch with anything outside of a pretty mainstream sphere -- they practically believe Animal Collective began at Merriwether.
Anyway, list wasn't too bad, but it was just a list made for someone who really never heard any hip hop in their life and needed to learn the basics. pretty much. |
Did they include any Wu stuff other than CREAM?

No matter if it was to be expected or not, I still cried baby's blood when I saw 99 Problems on that list. :(
Oh and... In Da Club... :banghead: |

Like with most Rolling Stone all-time lists, I only agreed with half of it.
