Hip hop afraid to promote gay rappers
Hi guyz
Now that the title has caught your attention..!!! Am a undergrad student , doing my thesis about the taboos of hip hop, I was hoping to get some feedback from some dedicated hip hop followers or anybody who wants to project their opinion. I wanna know what your thought on the homophobic attitudes that have commonly been attached to the hip hop culture (if you feel there is) and why! If you could project your opinion good or bad it would be helpful. Thanks. ahsiela B Last edited by ahsiela; 11-13-2012 at 01:41 PM. Reason: spelling mistake |

I dont feel hip hop is totally 100% homophobic
yes there are gay jokes and such but in rap and hip hop they in battles call everyone a ***got and it doesnt necessarily mean the person is gay as well, 50 cent publicly stated he supported gay marriage and many others have probably done the same

"Liking comic books is popular, environmental awareness, being tolerant. If I was just born ten years later, I would have been the coolest person ever." - Schmidt; 21 Jump Street
Society's evolving and being tolerant is cool now. The whole underground scene in particular is about differentiating yourself from others and being progressive. Anti-homophobia could almost be used as a trend now. There's still gonna be a lot of homophobia in hip-hop in general due to the combination of a lot of it being braggadocios and male-dominated, which leads to it being hyper-masculine (and most hyper-masculine people do not associate homosexuality with hyper-masculinity), but I kind of agree with JustJunMC that a lot of it just has empty meaning. This is the only gay rapper I know of though (he kind of sucks though): |

nop
He meant gay as in elated (hence why the full title of the album is I'm Gay (I'm Happy)).
