How important are lyrics to you?
 

I've met various people and some don't care about the lyrics in their hip hop songs while others NEED lyrical substance or they won't bother listening. Which one is it for you personally? How important are lyrics in hip hop for you?

It's not very important to me. As long as they aren't embarrassingly bad they don't bother me.

Pretty much what janszoon said. But I Prefer good lyrics and good music combined. I can only listen to a song with bad lyrics so many times unless I begin to ask myself, "what the hell am I listening to?"

It's tough to say and really depends on the combination of production, lyrics, flow, and voice. Any one of them can break a song, and any one of them can make me like a song to some degree. Overall though, I'd say production is the most important, but it's tough to pick the next most important one from the other three.

It depends on the song. If the song was meant to have lyrics than I expect something good. For example, Elton John made dope lyrics for Benny and The Jets.

I wasn't aware that Elton John had released any hip hop.

It depends. If the beat has a deep sounding feeling than lyrics isnt as important. But its really important
