and threads like it always end up the same.. 1 guy says "HIP HOP IS DYING! OMG!" and then a few Batmans come to the rescue just to say what they like, but no one even checks out the recommended artists.. it's a bunch of self massaging

I think people do check out the recommended artists, it's just not usually the person who said "HIP HOP IS DYING! OMG!"

Sheeeeeit, i'm from the place. Just trust me. You don't really like them, you just think you do. :nono:

nah Phantom, i'm not a big Rhymesayers fan either but Atmosphere's cool, Slug's a great writer and Ant is a mad underrated producer

and P.O.S. is pretty good.. and that guy is great live

here is what is wrong with rhymesayers

this muthafucka is white and from Wisconsin.
Brother Ali, why is he living through other races struggles and tribulations?

Jester 09-24-2012 06:22 PM

he's albino and growing up, "all the white kids picked on him for his condition" and he felt "most at home amongst black people"

in a lot of his songs he talks about how black people influenced him in more positive ways than white people, he doesn't like the idea of "race" and stuff like that

Not to mention that he's an incredible emcee and absolutely ****ing slams live. I don't care if he's purple with pink polka dots; I've never seen an emcee put forth such a commanding and energy-drenched performance ever.

growing up? he's 35 years old.

He doesn't care about race but makes sure to identity with black people only.

Robbinsdale is a 20 minute drive from where i live. It's not exactly full of inspiring black youth (particularly not of the Muslim variety) but times have changed so i can't speak for back then.

As for the music, i find his exaggerated soulfulness- for reasons you can guess- particularly unnecessary.

I did like the champion ep though, he went hard on that. Back when his persona was new and compelling like all these sappy rhymesayer guys

Phantom Limb 09-25-2012 03:08 PM

Yeah, rhymesayers is wack.

Also, Doom hasn't been on rhymesayers for like 17 years and he's the only good act still associated with them.

As a 35 year old myself, I assure you we too had childhoods.
