No, I've said in other threads, for me some of those artists get by on nostalgia. I've never liked Snoop or JayZ. I just prefer my rap to be about the lyrics and the rhyming more so than the beat.

And by rap I meant he has the ability to rhyme. 90s music told a story or wrote songs about something. You can argue Lil Wayne does that too but it's to a way lesser degree. Just look at the verses of 90s rap compared to main stream rap today.

It's not about the rhyming anymore. Mainstream rap today is about making pop music with a rap delivery for a large audience. It's fun, party, and fantasy oriented (for the average blue collar american).

Comparing Aesop to Lil Wayne is like comparing apples to mashed potatoes.

ok maybe we're just different cause to me jay-z in his prime could out-rap aesop any day of the week. if you say he can't tell a story then i'm unsure who can. maybe you don't even understand the lyrics that you say are garbage because they're so embedded with slang and terms that you don't understand.

The sentence following the snoop/jayz comment had nothing to do with them. I don't understand why your nagging me. I simply do not like Lil Wayne, I think he is a bad lyricist. If you find his lyrics appealing or clever than have at it.

I know slang talk. I've been listening to rap for as long as you've been alive. I also live near where a lot of those artists are from..

cause it honestly seems like some fake "gotta hate this mainstream ****" to me. if you can honestly break down why jay-z is not appealing to listen to but biggie is, i'm willing to listen. otherwise i think you are the type who is afraid to like popular ****.

I enjoy mainstream hiphop in the appropriate setting (bars/clubs, where they go with the atmosphere and make good background noise). TBH, since I joined MB I think I've become much more receptive to music I would have automatically shunned in the past. I might start to listen to it by choice eventually.

I hate the way JayZ sounds, just like I hate the way MF Doom sounds. It's simply a taste thing, and his **** now is blah compared to Dead Presidents. I actually disliked Nas for a long time also, not everything that is intelligent or clever is gonna appeal to my ear, just like I like some stuff that is stupid or for fun(Mac lethal, Watsky) I enjoy.

I'm open minded, and give almost anything a chance but I generally just do not appreciate the lyrics of mainstream rap. I never said it wasn't catchy, it just pales in comparison to what I think rap should/could be. For instance, I heard some song on the radio yesterday (I forget who it was) but they said "I got a trilogy, thats three stories" or something to the effect. I thought that was pretty clever for a radio jam.

Also, I listen to Rhianna, Nicki, Adele, One Republic, Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheron, and countless other mainstream artists. I just don't really like mainstream HipPop or whatever you want to call it. I like my rap 80s/90s style or some underground indie stuff. If you were ever in plug, you'd hear all the kinds of artists I listen to.

alright, just trying to feel you out. maybe i misjudged. it's just strange to me to like dmx for example but not jay-z. just that everybody i ever met who really respected the ability to spit lyrics might say so-and-so is overrated or overhyped but they wouldn't just say they're garbage... there's just some rappers where if you say that you sound like you don't know what you're talking about. it's kind of like calling mike tyson a pussy. he might not be the world's toughest man but you can't seriously call him a pussy.
