Toony TuneS & Mr. Mockwell
They only have one really short album, Conducted Sounds of Drama, along with a remix of it, but I'm really liking it. Really cool Madvillainy types of beats, and Toony TuneS, while he doesn't say anything very impressive, has a style that I really dig.

Dude this is really dope. The beats are really amplified. Definitively hear some clear j dilla influences, always good.
His rapping is cool, uses a lot of neat effects on his voice. He has an effective presence on the beats, it sounds like a mix of tyler the creator and one of the dudes from cool kids. Last song was my favorite. Really ominous vibe. Beat really hits hard without a lot of clear sounds, many distorted white noises. Last edited by Sparky; 03-04-2012 at 03:22 PM. |

Yeah man, they're nothing special, but I'm loving the beats. And Toony TuneS definitely has that "cool" vibe going for him. Interesting that you mentioned OF, as I was thinking the same thing. It's tough to place it though, I almost see comparisons at different times to Tyler, Hodgy, and even a bit of Left Brain when he spits.
If you go to his main page (on tumblr) the first thing you see are pictures of a shopped Madvillainy album cover and an MF DOOM mask, so you know he's got the right influences haha. |

So i've listened to this enough times to feel confident formulating a definite opinion.
lol thats a funny sentence when read back Anywho, I'd say this release is very promising, if a bit amateurish. The lyrics left a lot to be desired. Tooney has great flow and wittiness, but has occasional moments where what he spits is simply lazy. In "CSOD" for example, he spits: Quote:
The production is really good. The beats aren't always though. It's an odd juxtaposition. "The Krafty Ones" sounds great, but a lot of the beats are very generic, but it's being masked by a lot of superficial effects and multiple vocal layers. The Mixing (which was handled by tooney) sounds superb, but Mr. Mockwell is only 13 years old according to the internet, which explains why the beats aren't more interesting. He's crazy good for 13 though wtf. Anyway I give this a SUPER PROMISING/10 |

Pretty insane really. He must already be signed to a record label or something to be using that quality sounding equipment.
@thomyorke I have no idea, the article i read compared him to the likes of oddfuture (he's from the same bay area) so I'm guessing their age, maybe older going by his lyrics |
