Maybe the shit isn't actually the foundation but it keeps telling everyone that it is.

The shit doesn't talk, it's called rapping.

And yes, it does rap, unfortunately.

Ghost Deini, from Supreme Clientele. The genius interpretation points out that the Gallant is a type of Mitsubishi, and that he has them lying in wait for some act of deviancy. However, the particular use of "Two Gallants," a story about two men trying to weasel gold - one doing the actual work, the other kind of tagging along - from a naive girl, reminds me of some of the narratives Ghost would tell, albeit much more mundane (as all of Joyce's work is essentially). I believe it references Joyce especially because Ghost's stream of consciousness is so akin to Joyce, full of free association, somewhat abstract innuendo as well as other bizarre uses of humor, and vivid imagery.

gotcha.

You lost my attention anyways after you mentioned El-p, the guy white washes hip hop and sounds like shit He comes off hard, but even Kanye sounds tougher than him. Not to mention the horrid mumbo jumbo noise he passes off as beats. If you think that's substantial hip hop, I think we're hearing two different things.

I was kind of thinking lyrically but I do also think those albums have great production as well (which isn't one of Kanyes faults tbh). I wasn't aware that going hard qualified for substantiality but I've only been listening to hip hop for coming up on three or four years now so I'll keep that in mind.

LOL @ the noise comment. I listen to Metal Machine Music hungover, I might be a little desensitized. Plus it's not like the beats on Yeezus sound anything like what El would do...

The beats on Yeezus were neutered Death Grips/NIN, i mean it's not much deeper than that. Now lemme jump in and say i'm not the biggest El-P fan, not against him just haven't listened enough, but I just can't believe the criticism I'm seeing here. I think he's a fine artist, and the fact that all of RTJ is on his back (along with some other great work) just seems to entirely negate the idea that his stuff is just noise.

I mean El-P is only the best producer in the game right now, what's so special about that?

I know this is probably a joke but the musical equivalent of Michael Bay would have to be Nickelback or Linkin Park. Absolute trash human. To mention him in the same sentence as Kanye as an insult!

Never looked at his lyrics in much detail, but this is really cool. I used to hate Joyce but I've come round to him lately.
