I think Kanye is overlooked by his persona and the way he uses auto-tune so much. If you look at a lot of his songs , however, he does have a lot to offer on the lyrical perspective. A lot of his songs have some pretty deep concepts underlying the face value of the lyrics.

How many songs has Kanye made? How many of his songs have auto-tune?

Jesus. He hasn't used it THAT much.

I think I can be blamed for the way this thread is sounding. I got off topic in my debate of auto-tune, I wasn't implying that he's a one trick pony, and he does have some good tracks. But he definitely isn't overlooked, at least from a commercial standpoint. There a lot of underrated artists, he isn't one of them.

kanye is anything but underrated. If anything he's probably overrated. Still he has some decent songs, at least he's not just another gangster rapper.

I think music will follow a path much like we see with photo-enhancement software creating unrealistic standards for magazine ads out of good looking but average women. While "auto-tune" as it exists now will likely burn out and die(According to Jay-Z) I think that programs like it will continue to be a force in music. And yes, for the most part before the current outbreak of auto-tune and vocoder, it was used much more modestly to tweak the pitch slightly to make it sound more appealing.
I dunno, I just don't think the general public (even the part that listens to anything popular ((me)) ) will just swallow something fake in place of general talent. I just feel it, up in my heart.

If you want good Kanye West, get The College Dropout. The production is hot and colorful, and he proves himself as a charismatic rapper. Plus, he raps one song (Through the Wire) with his jaw wired shut after a car accident. The whole album is solid.

Aesop Rock! He's my favorite rapper, he's the one who got me into music. His lyrical content's density is unmatched, so you'll catch something new in the lyrics for a long time. He's incredibly diverse (No Regrets -> Tugboat Complex Pt. 3). His rhyme scheme is complex and creative, his flow is one of the greatest, and his wordplay is interesting and witty as fuck.

Really, I still think Labor Days is the most wholesome Aesop Rock experience. Some might disagree and say Float (which is almost as good, it just doesn't excite me as much at points. But it has some of my favorite Aesop Rock songs.) Either way, both are excellent. Oh, and don't listen to the people who say any Aesop Rock album is bad, he's one of the most consistent artists there is.

If you download Labor Days, keep an eye out for Battery and Save Yourself, they did so much for me.

this is what irks me. All these big rappers (not Jay-Z big...Jay is a diff category) who are big time right now...will be forgotten.

Kanye has made some sick music but I doubt very seriously if 10 years from now anybody is gonna be all gung ho about him the way they are now.

just my two cents
