Clipse

Clipse is Pusha T and Malice over production by the Neptunes.
I would imagine most people have heard of these guys, but if you haven't, you should check them out real quick.

Lord Willin', Hell Hath No Fury, and We Got It For Cheap: Volume 2 are all pretty dope.

Ha! Clipse is one of my guiltiest pleasures. I don't feel all that comfortable about recommending them but I like 'Hell Hath No Fury' a lot. I own the CD and have listened to it countless times. Definitely my favorite of the repulsive cocaine-dealing rap acts from the dirty south. Great production by the Neptunes and the brothers Clipse have actual rap talent.

I haven't listened to Clipse yet. But Pusha T's album was SOLID.

How come it's a guilty pleasure? Cause rap about selling cocaine?

There's nothing wrong with well executed gangster rap, such as Clipse. Both these guys are amazing emcees, Pusha slightly getting the edge for what i've heard from him. I need to get one of their albums though, i think i'll get the hell one. Btw, anyone heard the Vinyl Fantasy 7 version of Fast Life?

No, it's not the cocaine, it's that all of their lyrics are based on what everybody hates about rap. Their themes are: Selling coke, making more money than you by selling that coke, spending that money on trashy women and limousine rides, and, oh yeah, also making more than you or your family will ever make just by rapping about this stuff.

Kind of embarrassing lyrically, really, as pretty much every song covers one or more of those topics. Also, while the beats are good, they're not really in the style that I like. They rap over a good version of crappy production if that makes any sense.

But these guys have serious talent. They're both clever and have interesting cadences and delivery. And, of course, it'd be stupid of me to hold good, intelligent rappers above talking about drugs, money, and bitches ALL of the time like Clipse do. I'd just like them better if they rapped about more interesting subject matter. Also, without the Neptunes the beats are pretty terrible like most lazy, overly repetitive and electronic dirty south beats.

Despite all of this I like them but that's why I feel guilty about it.

and yet they have a hugely dedicated hipster fanbase, go figure.

Engine 12-20-2011 12:41 AM

I don't need more reasons to be embarrassed by liking this shit, thank you.

supposedly co produced by joaquin phoenix which is pretty cool haha

djchameleon 10-03-2013 03:19 AM

I like how he disses Drake and J. Cole in that song.

Also Joaquin Phoenix denies producing it.

Quote:

“While it was widely reported that Pusha T used my beat and that I produced his song, I can’t take any credit,” Phoenix said in a statement to XXL. ”A friend’s son played me his music, and all I did was make an introduction to Kanye [West]’s camp.”
