Odd Future doesn't get attention from "mainstream" outlets, at least not radioplay, and continue to be absurdly successful.

I think as the years progress it will get harder to lump people into categories like "mainstream" or "underground" as the influence of traditional media continues to die.

In the UK they're receving a lot of attention, they've been featured in newspapers, popular music magazines and given quite a lot of airplay on BBC Radio One.

Alright take out Odd Future and replace it with Atmosphere. Point still valid.

idk....even though the underground is getting more recognition because of people utilizing the internet to find artists that are outside of the normal mainstream mediums such as radio and music videos, the term underground will still exist because they may have more fans but they still won't have that big commercial aspect that makes them mainstream. I don't see the two merging/lumping together any time soon.

I agree djchameleon, I'd say that Odd Future are a perfect example of underground with increased popularity. If they were truly mainstream then people all over the place would of heard of them, and heard more than Yonkers. They are definitely not in the mainstream yet.

That sounds like some of the views of old timers that I speak to that still think hip hop is just a phase and it will go away soon

All genres are 'just a phase'.
