I dunno, Plies' flow was so basic it would be hard to get off beat, but on Becky he somehow manages to hardly rhyme AND wobble off and on the beat. Back that Ass Up has to be better than any Plies verse i ever heard, and that is just ridiculous.

I definitely see the similarity though.

Whenever I think of Juvenile going off beat it's from this song. It's like he doesn't even care about the beat and just keeps plowing through lol

I'd always thought that was intentional, for some reason... I used to hear it all the time with South shit. It never occurred to me that not one person in the recording studio would have noticed and said something about it.

Seriously, if you had told me cashmoney or "hot boyz" or whatever was going to be the biggest, most profitable label come 2011 i would have laughed my ass of at you.

WTF is up with this beat? It's like somebody passed out on the keys and birdman walked in and was like "wheres my beat" and dude just hits play and is like "uhh here ya go"

you feel like doing two more tonight?

Mac Miller and Sage Francis if you are up for it.

lol it's not like it's that hard for me to spew nonsensical 2 sentence rants about artists especially when it's all opinion based and hardly critiquing the actual music at all.

Just gotta get deuce chopped and ill get right on it

lol no, the only reason I said that was because the older night you were having a hard time listening to shit artists and it was messing with your buzz

Mac Miller
This dude is a poster boy and gets hooked up with really nice beats. Most of his content is a joke

oh my god mac miller i get to wear your hat? OMFG thats like your coolest characteristic

His portrait of stoner life is so dull, it's like what you would catch on a abc family sitcom or something.

Das Racist has a great stoner lyric "tried it at a party and it was my thing, paranoid self-consciousness is my thing." Like it is possible to rap about this **** and not make it so terribly cliche.

Ladies think this dude is super hot for some reason. I saw him live and they went completely ape ****.

Is anybody seeing a trend here?

Sage Francis

Always incredibly sappy or pretentious. I did like Personal Journals as a kid, then i grew up. His lyrics seem pretty good when he's saying them fast over some minimalist indie beat, but then you listen to it again and it's incredibly corny.
'Life's not a bitch, she's just sick of being personified' - Sage Francis
so insightful geez

He sometimes gives me flashes of nostalgia in the same way as like fugazi or something, but never something i can really listen to seriously.

Another funny sage francis line
"Life's just a lie with an 'F' in it, and death is definite."

Completely disagree, although I'm a little relieved it wasn't all for the reason I suspected (the bit about being pretentious). I don't find either of the lines you posted to be particularly corny. I know he isn't the endsall to alternative hip-hop but his material is genuine and occasially thought-provoking and when he isn't backed by an indie-rock band his music is on point, not to mention his flow is intense yet hella smooth.
