Section 80 is whatevs, but Good Kid and TPAB and now Unmastered, he's certainly proven to be the best rapper among the 10's, but he would've fit snug with Madlib and Doom and Dilla (IMO the most prolific of hip hop artists emerged in that time) 15 years prior. But I'm glad we have him now.

His albums and songs are subjective so people enjoy them differently, but I can't co-sign him being "the best" rapper of the current decade. If you separate the music from the rapping I really don't see anything particularly special about Kendrick compared to his peers across the Hip Hop sphere.
I'm guessing you aren't talking about technical skill alone, but I think the distinction is relevant.

I think that Kendrick's pretty technically adept, at least insofar as his ability to be a chameleon, rapping in all kinds of intonations and styles, usually for the sake of some greater narrative.
I think what makes him particularly interesting, though, is how god damn conceptual he can be. That's not necessarily for everyone, but it's what makes him stand out from the crowd imo. (That being said, not sure I'd consider him the best this dacade. TPAB is great, but I'm not necessarily on board with GKMC in the same way, beyond a few tracks. Haven't heard S80 yet, sadly.) |

What Kendrick really has going for him is his collabs with Thundercat and Kamasi and his interpretation of jazz rap which isn't done often these days, which is displayed really well on Untitled 5, but Untitled 2 is seriously one of the best Kendo songs, and contains no jazz.
