You know most people prefer Kendrick Lamar to Aesop Rock and EL-P? Makes me vomit onto my waterproof keyboard.

He's definitely easier to swallow, and still somewhat lyrical. Also, he's a different niche than the other two, who are in a more indie/alternative branch of Hip Hop.

I don't think Kendrick is all that accessible. Personally speaking, his voice and different flows can be almost unbearable to listen to at times. Obviously he's a lot easier to swallow than guys like Aesop and El-P, but I'm really surprised at how much he's blown up when looking at his style compared to other quasi-mainstream artists.

Chop and screw Hip Hop, already seen somewhat prominent, is resurfacing in public consciousness, and highlights a distorted voice; this was much before Kendrick took this up, or in more recent terms, around the same time. I wouldn't say switching flows is anything too groundbreaking either, looking at Bone Thugs or even Big Sean on "Ass," an incredibly commercial song that sees him delving into an odd switch of pace. Maybe the traditional double-time isn't all that we're talking about here, but as far as I can tell, Kendrick's style consists of pretty classic/traditional ingredients, as far as what people consider a virtuoso or great MC. Not to say I agree too much, the guy is nice, but best new rapper? Most interesting? Not for me, but i probably don't have the best taste.

^^ Agreed. I think with each album he's going to get better and better. Great way to start, because the album he just released is incredible. definitely a breathe of fresh air from all of the commercial rap.
