Agreed on both points. They're just another subgenre of hip hop and should be taken on its own accord. If I took that mindset, I would have to consider all of the great albums of 69 **** because they came out in the same year as Trout Mask Replica.

I can see why death grips wouldn't be considered hip hop. that's not a shot at them or anything but they don't really have any similarities to the genre besides they rap as far as I understand. but I know weve had this convo about grime too

they would honestly be better if they didn't have some **** rapper spew his nonsense over their beats

maybe then i would listen to them

His style kind of makes it hard to notice, but Ride's lyrics are on point.

all i know is their beats sound alright but they would work better as instrumentals to me

the fact that they use them for rap beats instead is what makes them unappealing to me

Jenny Death was cool, not the revelation I was hoping for, but it was cool. On GP is still my favorite.
At least I know that with Death Grips I can always expect to hear textures my ears have never felt before, and they consistently bring that.
