Heh, when I was growing up in a Christian household (standard non-denominational), rock music was the devil. This was during that whole "ohhh there's satanic messages backwards-masked into rock music!" thing.
Vilified were the rock horns, Highway to Hell, and even Hotel California for some reason. (I think it's because the word "hell" is in the lyrics)

Never heard a peep about hip hop though. I doubt my folks had ever even heard it when I was growing up. They didn't have a problem with TMNT though, which I'm thankful for, as I loved them. But my dad was against "worldly holidays" and didn't celebrate Christmas in the traditional way, so I never got me no turtles for Christmas.

I was lucky enough to have a Walkman with headphones. I could tell my mom that I was listening to some gospel crap if she became suspicious.

So was my mother. We always had to go to church on Halloween to ensure that we didn't get kidnapped and sacrificed by the devil worshippers. On Christmas, we got very few presents, as it was Jesus' birthday and not ours.
