No, I just prefer to say hip hop to quell the line of thought that "rap" and "hip hop" are two distinct musical genres.

Hip-hop is a culture, hip-hop music is a genre.
Rap is a vocal technique.
They seem like distinctly different things to me.

There are also genres of music which use rap as a vocal technique which aren't hip-hop.
Grime, reggaeton, etc.

I dont really think my parents listened to rap. But, they do like a few songs nowadays, but mostly for the beats and not really any of the lyrics.
