j/k, haven't listened to this, but i've heard recommendations for Dizzie Rascal, so should i start with this one?

yeah might as well start with this one. I haven't heard it in a minute so I will be re-listening to it so I can discuss it.

Dont bother with anything else after this. He was something fresh for the UK scene back then, breking into the mainstream at a time where the UK charts were inundated with American acts, and he was someone that we could be proud of and get behind.

But he swiftly changed, and went with what I'd definitely say was a weaker sound. His delivery was alot slower and his diction was better, and while that made his lyrics easier to understand it took him too far away from his grime roots, and into the territory of pop... where now in 2011 he is more than happy to stay.

BIDC was a great debut from him though, for sure.

Sadly, Mr. Chuck is right.

he was like going to be the next big thing from UK and broke stateside but then the later albums never lived up to his debut and he just went downhill pretty fast.

Sure he had an okay single here or there afterwards but nothing as good as his debut.

His later stuff definitely isn't bad at all, it's just a little different. This is still probably his best album though.

Highlights: Brand New Day, I Luv You

I remember seeing him on this mini-look into Grime on MTV, and he seemed really good. What's wrong with improved diction? Diction seems like it would make his music more poetic and deep. Maybe it is a step away from Grime, which i really have no experience with, but i can't see the fault in improving there. Fast flow doesn't really hook me anyway.

well i listened to it yesterday. at first the beats and vibe of the music threw me off cause i'm not too familiar with the whole UK garage/grime scene, but when i kept listening to it, i really got into the whole sound. Dizzee's voice was something that i was trying to get used to as well, but i liked his flow and how it worked for the songs.

i'll probably need to give it a second go sometime soon, but for now it's a 7/10 for me

This is one of my favorite albums of the 00s. It's unfortunate that he kind of lost the thread later on by, to my ears, trying too hard to emulate American rappers, but this album remains an amazing breath of fresh air to me. Or maybe not so much "fresh" air as cold, harsh air. I've always loved how brutally cold this album sounds.
