Hip Hop Poll: Final Round(for reals this time) Madlib vs. The Wu-Tang Clan

Because of a certain someone we have to do it alllll over again.

Sneer 02-25-2011 04:21 PM

Got to be Wu again... although Madlib's Quasimoto work makes it so difficult to choose.

Janszoon 02-25-2011 04:46 PM

Madlib by a longshot.

Charlemagne 02-25-2011 07:01 PM

Madlib...once again.

djchameleon 02-26-2011 04:18 AM

Madlib better win this time

Kirby 02-26-2011 04:46 AM

Wu-Tang.

Madlib's cool, but he would never get my vote over the Wu.

Sneer 02-26-2011 11:31 AM

Looks like the two are destined for a draw.

OK, so there is a sense of incredulity amongst some respected posters that Wu Tang COULD beat Madlib. This surprises me. Madlib is great, his production is tip top and his work with Madvillian, Jaylib and Quasimoto is brill. But when considering the releases of Wu as a group, not to mention the solo work released by the likes of GZA, Method Man, Raekwon and Ghostface Killa... I think Wu take it. Plus, I may get shot for this one considering peoples love for Madlib... but I think RZA is equal to him as a producer.

if you consider all of the Wu's solo releases as part of the Wu-Tang catalogue, then the argument becomes semi-difficult. but, as i don't consider Liquid Swords or Iron Man as Wu-Tang Clan releases, the debate is quite simply ended.

Otis Jackson Jr. gets the nod.

Sparky 02-26-2011 11:42 AM

RZA has always produced for some at least decent if not good rappers.

Madlib has prodcued some of the ****tiest artists(i'm looking at you strong arm steady) and still been able to make them sound good. He can produce anything.

RZA is still pretty awesome too though. This is intense poll.

What isnt Wu Tang about those albums?

A Wu member's album with guest appearances from pretty much the entire collective, produced by Rza, with explicit references, as well as sharing lyrical themes, to the Clan throughout?

As far as I'm concerned, they're just Wu-Tang albums with one member elevated to the foreground

I think the people that are voting for Madlib are not taking into account the solo work of each member because they had their own chances in the polls to beat other artists and they failed.

Plus Madlib is an infinitely better producer than RZA.

I dunno about that....I wouldn't say miles ahead of RZA....maybe more like inches ahead.

OK, this is where wires possibly cross. See, if we're taking into consideration solo releases from within the Wu franchise, which I though would be a natural approach (but then I havent managed to keep up with most of premiliminary rounds, my bad) then as I've said, it's Wu by a mile for me. If we're taking the Wu-Tng purely by their collective releases, I'd still say Wu. They are one of, if not the most influential hip hop acts of all time, and in my opinion they havent released a bad album... something which, IN MY OPINION, Madlib has.

TockTockTock 02-27-2011 01:10 PM

I think they're both great. I wish there was a "Both" option, but... eh. I voted Wu Tang Clan because they've probably had more influence, but then again I think they're both wonderful. So, it's pretty hard to choose.

That's how I looked at things before punching my ticket for Madlib. I know it's just a little competition for fun, but I sort of struggled with how to vote for solo/group artists throughout this whole thing because it wasn't very well defined.

I don't see this as Madlib vs. GZA, Raekwon, Ghostface, RZA, etc... It is Madlib vs. Wu-Tang as a collective unit. With that in mind, I put less stock in any solo work by Wu-Tang artists when considering voting for thee "Wu-Tang Clan".

I late realized the hypocrisy of doing this, while still giving Madlib tons of credit for Madvillain (who, like GZA, Raekwon, etc, was also a separate competitor in the polls that also lost out over the course of time). But, even factoring out Madvillain, I still think Madlib instrumental work has such an abundant amount of quality across the map that he takes the cake for me.

In the end, it looks like RVCA voted for Wu-Tang Clan so... there ya go. 11-10.

RVCA 02-28-2011 05:31 PM

I didn't vote, because I don't feel familiar enough with the works of either artist. I WOULD have voted Madlib just to tie it up and **** with you guys, but alas, I was too late :p:

Wu Tang

Kind of an anti-climatic finish. Congrats to Wu-Tang Clan, MB's favorite collective in the history of history.
