Lil' Wayne is so enigmatic. It's like he opens his mouth and out spews these rhymes and lyrics that most people wouldn't think of in a million lifetimes. He raps with such confidence (as oppose to "swagger"). When Lil' Wayne tells you that he is a martian, it genuinely defies anyone to refute that. He is on his way to being (one of) the greatest rappers ever. Hell, he's been rapping since he was a child, and been signed to a label since he was in like middle school. I think that him trying to diversify into that all-to-bemuddled Rap/Rock mixture is going against what he does best. Is he an amazing rapper? Yes. Should he be playing guitar solo's and "singing"? No. His raspy voice just isn't capable of delivering melodic lyrics.

I also like the concept that by the end of Rebirth, his claims of being a martian comes true and he takes off. Then he decides to continue the same concept on I Am Not a Human Being.

oh my god you guys are giving him so much credit for being high as **** and calling himself a martian, whoopdee ****ign doo. Omg nobody can refute it, nobody can refute me being the reincarnation of Ganesh either .
At least when David Bowie did it he went all out. "I am not a human being" is the same rapping he always does just with some rock samples. It's not a concept album. And Rebirth is so awful, it's not even subjective, it's a fact. It represents BAD music. |

I think you're missing the point a little bit Matious. The whole "I'm a martian / I am not a human being" thing isn't literal (which I'm sure is pretty obvious), but it's his way of converying to his listeners that he is unique and not like any other act out there. IMO, not necessarily better than everyone else, just completely different.
But I do agree that his venture into the rap/rock realm wis a mis-step. I think that with him being at the top of his rap game, he may have been a little bored with it and wanted to try his hand at something new (kind of like Michael Jordan trying to be a baseball player). |

If rebirth is what your calling deep your silly. And i do like Wayne sometimes. Just because I don't accept everything he does as some awe-inspiring tour de force in conceptual personification in hip hop, or call him the greatest buisnessman doesn't mean i dislike him any more then a lot of poprap.
Rebirth just really really sucked, and i can't handle...or believe, anyone could think otherwise. |

I actually think Eminem is the most overrated rapper ever. I'm not saying he isnt good, because at his best he was very good. But he gets alot of unneccessary praise, and I daresay its because he is white, [possible racism alert]in a predominantly non white genre [/possible racism alert]

Lil'wayne has run his business well.. Whether that be through the visions of others or his own he is doing a good job.. I think he's naturally a very talented individual, and has been in the game for a long time... The most beneficial part of that, would probably be that he was raised as a child into a complex and ever-changing music industry that has most certainly helped him in his success now as a musician, and business man. I think he's done amazing.
