I don't get it either. I didn't think he was poetic the first time I heard him 17 years ago and I have never found him poetic since. Honestly I've always found him kind of cheesy.

2pac may have been a step above the rest lyrically for what was popular at the time, and what was mainstream rap at the time. But the truth is, long before him and long after him underground or lesser known hip hop acts have been spitting these so called poetic rhymes (I really wouldn't use the word "poetic" as an adjective, since in reality all raps are poetry).
As for examples, try A Tribe Called Quest. They were a hip hop group founded in 1985 and they are very creative both lyrically and musically. |

Rappers talking about how awesome they are in songs that have nothing to do with how awesome they are.
Sick of that ****. Eminem does that pretty often and so does Drake. Something about his pockets being heavy or some stupid **** like that. shut the **** up. |
