You're right in the sense that some people do it that way, and I think Eminem is just so perfect at that style he really pulls it off well. So while I would call his sh!t a true freestyle, he's the exception. Truly real, one hundred percent genuine freestyle's are legitimately off the top of your head, what you think up you spit out.

Look at the Cudi, Cole's second verse and everything from Mos Def* I just posted As well as the original video that started this thread of Asher Roth, I truly believe there's no memorization whatsoever. Some of Kanye's stuff, however, you can tell is mixed memorized material with true freestyle.

*Mos Def is up for debate here. I like to think he's 100% off the dome but he's just leaves me so incredibly awestruck that I force myself to think that maybe he'll throw in a material line every so often.

That kid cudi one was pretty wack. I say we make this our favorite freestyle thread.

skip like 4:00 in to see eminem snap

This might be the best one ever.

I don't know how authentic this one is, but he kills it regardless.

acapella! Pusha t anyway. Kanye just raps his gorgeous verse.

His point was that all the comparison to Eminem by word of mouth was probably a helpful factor in Roth's increased stardom.
Yeah okay, I was being an asshole. I'm sorry Kirby, I just disagree.

First vid: I think all of Joe and Percee's **** was memorized. Em's hard to tell but dope find on that sh!t cause he probly is just going off. He really is just on a different lyrical level than everybody else whether he's freeing or not.

Second vid: I was gonna post this actually, old school illness at it's finest. I think Jay and DMX are both straight freeing with a memorized punchline or 2. "Pinstripes across your windpipe," that's gotta be thought out in some way, shape or form beforehand. Still though... too ill and too raw, that's a REAL battle.

third vid: Both are memorized but truly thank you for this. I could listen to Big spit for hours, especially some ish like this I never heard before. You hear stuff like this and just think damn son... There's no words for what he could've done for hip hop if he was still here with us. R.I.P.

fourth: Homeboy introducing him is freeing but Monch isn't. DAMN did he kill it though... Simon Says is my ish I dunno why he never got the chance to blow up. It's a shame how some of the illest rappers to ever spit (Monch, Mos Def, MF Doom) aren't the superstars that trash like Gucci Mane and Ross are.

fifth: Yeah I seen this ish before too, dope as hell but neither are freeing, they both wrote them verses in Hawaii when they were recording for MBDTF. P does a dope job pretending he just laughing when he f*cks up and he's got that crazy look in his eye but yeah he's got all that memorized. He's really making some comeback from the Clipse days though, talk about resurrecting a career. He absolutely murders his sh!t here. To be honest though, watch how Kanye goes hard into it, with the knowledge that this verse exists before he spits. If you've listened to MBDTF as much as I have (album of the fking decade) you can almost rap it yourself and know what it feels like to go that hard on something you wrote and just know so well cause you got it memorized. Then go back and watch P and you can tell he's doing the same thing... I still love this ish though, dope as hell.

Great video's man... Oh and that Cudi sh!t? It's kinda wack cause he just mumblin not saying a damn thing but he continues to FLOW on the beat trying to go one hundred percent off the dome without stopping. That's a true freestyle, just go straight from what pops off the top and keep that sh!t rocking, follow blocks, and never stop. He does a dope job of not breaking flow, it's like he skipping rocks on the beat.

I know right? Nothing for like 7 years and all of a sudden i see him everywhere again. Definitely one of the better mainstream rappers of this decade.

It's really, really, really cliche and stupid to make fun of Justin Bieber. Every 10 to 20 year old male seems as obsessed with him as his 10 to 13 year old girl fanbase. Lay off him, he's just a stupid kid. And for a stupid kid who doesn't even rap, that wasn't too bad.
