Commenting on the mini Jay Z discussion... I don't like Jay because I don't like his flow. It's way different and kind of off beat and I just don't really like it. Always thought he was so over rated as a rhymer.

I love Jay, especially his older stuff. I will jump on the bandwagon though that his verse on Monster was really weak though. On the other hand the Power remix with him is pretty tight.

I don't think he has bouts of sucking, he just doesn't give a **** about other peoples albums.

Black Republican
Monster
The entire R. Kelly Tour

He just goes in and figured either

a. this is your song, you carry it

or

b. I've given this enough star power. I hope you don't disappoint.

I also wonder how much time he's got to cut these things. But with the Nicki Minaj thing, it burns me because its not painting an accurate picture. She had some reality thing on TV this weekend and some knob from rolling stone basically said "she had the best verse on the track which includes Rick Ross, Jay-Z, and Kanye."

And I'm thinking to myself, well that pitches it in a way that makes those not paying attention to believe she's better than them and Jay-Z alone has, what, 12 albums? Possible 13. She's not that good. I remember once upon a time Ciara or someone was "up there with the Beatles" because she had 3 songs on the top 10. Well Rap doesn't operate the same as rock does with recordings, and she was in the Top 10 with Fat Joe and Ja rule and all sorts of people. As they say in stats class "figures don't lie, but liars can figure." These are not apple-to-apple comparisons.

Saying Nicki Minaj has the best verse on monster is like saying you have the nicest car out of all of them in in the lot. Except you're not telling anyone the lot you're looking at the junk yard. Its still a true statement, but you've set the situation up to yield the results you want.

Weezy im less inclined to disagree, but you can't deny that he dramatically altered his style and lead to a new form of rapping that nearly every commercial rapper follows now.
Kanye's album was hardly flawless. It appears that I am one of the few who isn't inclined to **** ride yeezy. I personally found MBDTF boring, and not at all as revolutionary as it was pegged. Anyway, Kanye is just one example who stands above thousands of others.

I'm sick of people giving credit to rappers because they have been around forever and have a dozen albums.

The pure truth is, no matter how good Jay-Z is and what he did for Hip-hop in his hay-day.. what is wrong with new people coming in and adding some new blood to the game.

seriously, I will probably enjoy Nicki's stuff more than a lot of 'classic' hip hop.

The fact is: music evolves.. new people come up with fresh ideas and good flow. just accept it

I just thought that the general chord changes used were pretty generic (not a huge issue), the chorus' weren't very good and that Kanye's rapping was a little bit weak for such a highly praised album. Don't get me wrong, I was very excited to listen to this album for the first time (I had just read the pitchfork review) but I was let down quite a bit. I shouldn't have said that I found it boring, because that's a little bit harsh. I really meant that the album lost my interest somewhere near the middle and didn't grab it again. Basically, that's what I didn't like. I can't agree with this album being "nearly flawless" if I'm not compelled to listen to it anymore. Just my opinion.

The rapping was good, "choke a southpark writer with a fish****" and the choruses were great, you got bon iver singing on some of them.

I'm starting to like Nicki Minaj less and less. Not her music, but she's starting to come off as a crazy feminist.
