I'm not even sure what you are looking for exactly but I'll give you a few recs. Afrika Bambaataa - Planet Rock: The Album Run DMC - Raising Hell Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet LL Cool J - Radio If you were talking about early 90s and gangsta rap type stuff I can do a follow up post with recs for that instead. Oh and there is this handy thread that probably needs some updating but it's perfect for what it is now. http://www.musicbanter.com/rap-hip-h...on-thread.html |
Listen to Jazz Liberators, smooth hip-hop. |
Recs for hip hop with dark and witty lyrics please. Preferably experimental/noisier production but I'm willing to try out anything.
Eyedea - Shadow Have Shadows (I'm sure you know Eyedea but maybe not this track. I'm not exactly the most qualified to answer.)
First Born is one of my favourite hip hop albums. Is that song on an album?
"Even Shadows Have Shadows" on rap sampler We Came From Beyond (2001) according to the Wiki..
I've dropped it here before but it's too dope to not rep every day.

For anyone that knows (I'm guessing Deej mainly but everyone answer), I've never listened to Giggs, Krept & Konan etc, basically the UK Hip-Hop Road Rap guys in any depth, I've heard like one or two tracks from each, are they any good (particularly Giggs) and where is best to start?
The only stuff I've heard from Giggs is Talking the Hardest and a few collabs with Wiley, Cas and some others, no solo material. |
This kids blowin up on the YouTubes.. it'll be interesting to see where he goes.

If Giggs flow doesn't bother you then I think you'll like that album. Wretch 32 go with Black and White first. Jay Prince BeFor Our Time, he reminds me a little bit of Kendrick at times. Hawk House - A Handshake For Your Brain I really like their production, they use some jazz and give off a ATCQ feeling. Gerald Jacobs The Loudest Quiet is another good one to check out. Sneakbo is more on the road rap tip but he doesn't have any mixtapes or albums out yet. Just singles. Let me know what you think of the recs. |
Recommendations
Hello! I was wondering if someone could help me out with finding songs thats similar to "Reef the Lost Cauze - Coltrane, ft. State Store". Heavy rythm, nice flow, awesome beat.
I also really liked "Smoke Dza, Pete Rock, BJ The Chicago Kid, Jadakiss, Style P - Milestone". If someone could recommend similar raps, I would be very happy to hear them! -TheGamer |

I don't mind his flow, every time I've heard him he's killed it. On the Nutcracker tune he was better than Dizzee. Quote:

TFW you realize Chula only checked back in a thread cause he was expecting anti-Zeppelin backlash.
TFW when you begin to wonder if it's possible that the only two songs Papi Chulo knows are "Smoke on the Water," and "Whole Lotta Love."
MODS, please change my username to PAPI CHULO.
