is there anything similar to Deep Puddle Dynamics that isn't an Anticon release?

I like all music where the lyrics have something to say more than just talking about themselves or how amazing they are, but I hold rap to a higher standard than other formats cause the potential for lyric count. if someone is going to cram the most possible amount of words into a song it should be more than an advert for themselves. I have just been referring to it as 'Intellirap' but is there an actual genre title for that type of stuff? |
Joey Bada$$ is FTW. Can't wait his new release. ProEra crew is overall awesome. Recommended for everybody who is tired of trap and miss oldschool vibes.
|
Really dark, noisy and aggressive group (an MC and a producer), but with a of fundamentals of the classic east coast sound in their style. They get mentioned in the same category as Death Grips a lot, but neither group sounds remotely similar overall. |
Joey Bada$$, OFWGKTA, Earl Sweatshirt, MF DOOM, Madvillain

Swollen Members, and Immortal Technique

Looking for some music recommendations
Hi folks,
Could anyone give me some advice? I'm looking for some artists or songs that would have similar sound to 'Freaks' from Whodini's 1991 album Bag a Trix (seems I can't post a link because I'm new, but you can hear it on Youtube on the WhodiniVEVO channel). I really enjoy the upbeat tempo and combination of old school hip hop with swing in this track, particularly the trumpets and the singing in the chorus (Bag A Trix might have been my top 5 cassettes just because of that track). If anyone could recommend some artists that went for a similar sound in their songs, I'd really appreciate it :) |
If you're into non-mainstream hip-hop with a small flavour- mix of other genres too (rock, funk...) then Wrekonize & the whole Mayday crew from StrangeMusic are a much-check-out...

Just ran accross this!

As an Aussie, I'd love to throw Koi Child into the mix. Awesome, instrumental hip-hop with lively sounds. They recently got a big co-sign through Tame Impala front-man Kevin Parker jumping on as their Executive Producer. Let me know your thoughts.
I'd link it, but I can't. |

Just ask our resident Grime expert, MLM. I know a few you should check for also. Wiley, Kano, Skepta specifically the album he released this year(Konnichiwa). Ghetts but he's like not for everyone. If you are into his slow flow then you'll love most of his stuff. oh and Konan, I just learned about him myself. He's more just UK Hip Hop I believe and not as much a Grime artist. |

I read that someone from TDE will be dropping an album next month, fingers crossed it's Isaiah. His last project absolutely blew me away.

I recommend $uicideboy$
And The Buttress |

Spoiler for Tunes:
And Devlin's 'Tales From The Crypt', which is more like a Grimey Hip-Hop CD. Spoiler for Tune:

I had a few PMs asking for recs a while ago and forgot to mention this. For anyone wanting a decent intro to Grime other than Dizzee I would recommend Maxsta's Maxtape - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/th...pe/id924543204 Here is a track from it: Spoiler for Tune:
Slew Dem, Neckle Camp, Ruff Sqwad for the more harder type stuff. |
I've really found myself digging the rapper Hopsin. Any recs for a similar rapper?
|
Hopsin is a half assed mix between Eminem and Lupe Fiasco.
So Eminem and Lupe Fiasco. |

Eminem? Kill me first.
I'll check the other two guys. |
You like Hopsin but not Eminem? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

If you listen to Eminem especially in his early days. Hopsin sounds just exactly like him. Quote:

Hopsin is half assed Eminem as in Hopsin is not nearly as lyrical, not nearly as witty, not nearly as violent, just half assed. Unless you are comparing to Infinite Eminem. And Hopsin is really really corny.
|
Yeah, exactly. Hopsin brings the corniness that Em only had later on in his career, buuut I will suggest Cage, he's cut from the same lyrical vein as those two (except miles ahead, imo.)

Also Cage is from one of my hometowns. |
Infinite is trash and I don't really acknowledge even though yeah, that technically is early Em. When I say his early stuff, I mean Slim Shady LP & Marshall Mathers LP. The corniness on Recovery and his last project are in abundance, but not in the same way Hopsin makes me cringe, instead it's more of cringe over how far he's fallen off and forgotten how to make a decent song.
And yeah, Cage is the man. I found out about him from a music guy I watch regularly on YouTube and I've been repping him ever since. |
Relapse and Recovery were decent, Recovery more so than Relapse but they just showed how he's older and grown a bit even though on Relapse he was trying to do the same thing as on earlier albums.
|
I like Relapse, Recovery is a piece of pure 100% flaming hot doodoo.
|
I liked MMLP 2 but nothing beats MMLP 1
|
Quote:
Recovery is the same exact thing. That's what he was going for when he released Relapse and Recovery. He basically mimicked his two previous albums. SSLP and MMLP. |
Mimicked =/ As good as
Which song on MMLP is supposed to be similar to Love the Way You Lie, Not Afraid, Space Bound, and Won't Back Down? Those are arguably Em's four worst tracks in my opinion, and they're all found on Recovery. |
Looking for the best recs for the Golden Age of Hip Hop. I've got a decent idea of what to look for, but not to start with...

Except Stan is infinitely better and it's only one song versus an four.
|
The only bad track out of those four is Spacebound and even so it's not terrible, it's just meh.
Not Afraid and Love the Way You Lie are so so good. I guess those songs are only good if you can relate to them and see the maturity in them but whatevers. |
