^ Need to cop that. Oddisee is quality.

Cuthbert 11-09-2014 10:57 AM

Can anybody recommend me something similar to The Chronic/Doggystyle?

I have so far got:

Warren G - G Funk Era
NWA - Niggaz4Life
Soundtrack to Deep Cover
The Dogg Pound - Dogg Food

Few other bits and pieces but yeah looking for that 90's G Funk sound.

Goofle 11-09-2014 12:55 PM

MC Eiht - We Come Strapped (sorta)
People Under the Stairs - Fun DMC (also sorta)

Not one of my strongest areas to be honest.

DwnWthVwls 11-09-2014 01:13 PM

Anything from the West Coast in the early 90s should have a similar vibe that you are looking for. Are you looking for something in particular like the gangster lyrics, that west coast/dre style production, etc?

The Pharcyde

Ice Cube

Coolio

Scarface (you may know this beat if you like Jean Grae)

DJ Quik

A Tribe Called Quest

Cuthbert 11-09-2014 01:44 PM

Thanks a lot bros. Goof, will get those albums cheers mate.

Cheers bro. This is exactly what I'm looking for. I went through Ice Cube's discog but for me the beats were not very interesting. I am a fan of The Pharcyde but their sound is more mellow to my ears. Same with ATCQ. I am a fan of those too but it's not the sound I'm looking for.

Some examples, my favourite tracks from the Warren G album are 'Do You See' and 'Super Soul Sis'.

DwnWthVwls 11-09-2014 03:28 PM

Too $hort

Da Brat (kinda sorta)

Funk Doobiest (maybe)

Brotha Lynch Hung

Master P (kinda)

ever listen to nate dogg's solo album? g funk heaven tbh.

then there's always the obvious... 2pac from around "me against the world" to "don killuminati." "all eyes on me" is probably the closest to what you're looking for, but all 3 are worth a listen if you are into that kind of sound.

i would even go so far as to recommend master p's "ice cream man," if you are the type that can stomach ignorant street rap like me.

DwnWthVwls 11-12-2014 10:37 PM

^Cant believe I forgot to mention Nate Dogg.. he's probably closer to any what Christian is looking for than anyone else I can think of.

What's the most eerie Dark Lotus album,
And
What's the most evil Twizted album,
And
Can anyone recommend me albums similar to them? I already dig Hopsin, Tech9, and Armand Hammer, trying to expand my rap knowledge.

Frownland 12-13-2014 11:47 AM

I don't know any albums by those artists you mentioned, but if you like Armand Hammer you should check out Billy Woods' (half of Armand Hammer) History Will Absolve Me.

Need New Hip Hop, Suggestions?

I've been out of the loop for a little bit so I need some new Hip Hop artists to listen to, any suggestions? I recently bought that new J. Cole album which I've been bumping and I've also been bumping this new cat called Def Manic, pretty sweet jazzy vibes - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYcX2CMfg34
Any new artists that you can recommend similar to these styles?
Peace

i'm gonna make a request for recommendations since i honestly have been ignoring hip hop since about 2009-2010 or so and it seems like a few of you have kept on top of it.

i don't care if it's mainstream or underground or whatever my only qualifier is that it has to sound good and also nothing too fruity like drake. not to sound like a homophobe or whatever but i don't like soft rap music like that it just feels like a contradiction to me.

so yea.. what i like the most is 90's east coast grimey rap music like bcc, mobb deep, wu tang, etc. i also like g-funk just not quite as much and i also like outkast (first 3 albums) as well just not quite as much. same for 90's atcq/de la soul/the roots/digable planets/pharcyde/[insert 'conscious' (see: pussy) rap group here]. i also like more modern southern trap**** like carter 2 era/mixtape wayne and whatnot but i know you guys hate that ****. it's nothing mind blowing as far as creativity goes but it's decent music to me which is all that matters at the end of the day. i can tolerate some underground **** just not if it's too awkward or whatever. this is decent to me:

but this is not:

(sorry goofle)

so yea... what you guys got for me?

I don't know how much underground you know, and most of the music I listen to is from before you stopped listening to hiphop. I think most of what I like you won't but I'll toss out a few names to test the waters.

Maybe, Oktober Zero?
