listen to 3:00 for good beat change |
My recommendations
Old school hip hop that is out living todays rap by far. The Roots, Brand Nubian, A Tribe Called Quest, NWA, Rotten Razkals to name a few.

i really like this guy
Hes on stonesthrow as a kid. He's going to make grounds within the next decade. Once he outgrows his pretentiousness(hopefully) at least in such a blatant way, and tones down his kina contrived wordyness, it doesnt come off as indicative of the beats all the time- i think he's going to be a defining force if anyone cares for a rapper who doesn't look cool |
I got what your looking for. Check out the new single "Feels So Good". LA Music Award winner hip hop artist of the year…search for Jonezen Feels So Good on YouTube

Song that changed me
Not sure if you have heard it. Its a pretty obvious one. Blackalicious - "Make you feel that way". Just the song you need to hear
|
I am far from being a hip-hop expert, basically I enjoy listening to ATCQ and De La Soul. I want to check Brand Nubian and I wonder which album would be the best to start with?
Thank you. |

Hey yall, I'm pretty picky about my rap if there's not a nostalgia sort of thing attached to it (90s kid) and need more recs.
So far in life I dig Eminem, Tech N9ne, Hopsin, Tyler the Creator, Bone Thugs, and ICP. I dig rap that has a really creepy sort of vibe, or at least raw as ****. None of that in the club bull****, and nothing with a super electronic beat in back. I need good music, that is primary. Good music, and I have a heavy preference for deeper voices. Hope you can help! |

there's new ep by 100s out that's pretty good. free download via e-mail/stream here

Chance the rapper has some good ones
someone probably mentioned tyler the creator already |
I'm actually liking more of Chance's stuff the more I listen to it. Something about his voice still pisses me off though.
I reaaaalllyyy don't listen to enough rap to be honest, & I don't even know tf I like yet really. The rap I've got in my library so far is some Wu Tang (but the only album I have is 36 Chambers), Childish Gambino, Atmosphere, Aesop Rock and some OFWGKTA. So I guess I err on the side of more indie rap. I like clever wordplay and pop culture references. And Drake's soft-ass, too, of course. It'd be dope to hear some stuff from female rappers too, if anyone can recommend some. |

I'm pretty sure you may know K Flay already but I like this song from her EP two years ago. Nitty Scott Also I agree with you on Chance's voice and the whole "nananana" thing. |
Lauren Hill is one of the best rappers. Not easy listening.
She has more to say in twenty seconds than many records/discographies |
^ Dope.

Finding New Hip Hop
Hey, I'm a big hip hop enthusiast and I've been having trouble finding good new music. Obviously hip-hop is a massive genre, but I wouldn't mind some suggestions. If you guys could list some artists/groups you think are worth checking out that would be fantastic. I enjoy hip-hop from any time period, so feel free to recommend old school stuff too.
Here is a list of artists/groups I listen to regularly, so you know what I've heard and incase you're also looking to expand your library. There are quite a few artists in my library missing from this list, but not ones I listen to often. Thanks! Aceyalone, Alpha Singh, Atmosphere, Audio Two, Beastie Boys, Big Daddy Kane, Big L, Big Pun, Bigg Bump, Biz Markie, Black Sheep, Blackstar, Blu & Exile, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Bow Wow, Brand Nubian, Brother Ali, Captain Steez, Captain Murphy, Cassidy, Chance the Rapper, Chiddy Bang, Chief Kamachi, Childish Gambino, Coolio, Craig Mack, Crooklyn Dodgers 95, Cypress Hill, Czarface, D-Pryde, The D.O.C., D12, Damian Marley, Danny Brown, Das EFX, De La Soul, Dead Prez, Digable Planets, Doomtree, Drake, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Eric B. & Rakim, Eyedea & Abilities, The Fugees, Funky 4+1, Gang Starr, Grandmaster Flash, Grieves, Grits, GZA, Heiruspecs, Hoodie Allen, Ice Cube, Immortal Technique, Jay-Z, Joey Bada$$, Kid Cudi, Kid Ink, KMD, Kool G Rap, Kurtis Blow, Lauryn Hill, Living Legends, Lupe Fiasco, Mac Miller, Machine Gun Kelly, Macklemore, Madlib, Madvillain, Marley Marl, MF Doom, Mobb Deep, Mos Def, N.W.A., Nas, Notorious B.I.G., Odd Future, Outkast, P.O.S., Pete Rock, Pharcyde, Public Enemy, Pusha T, Raekwon, Rob Base, The Roots, Run the Jewels, Run-DMC, Salt-N-Pepa, Shad, Snoop Dogg, The Sugar Hill Gang, Surreal and the Sound Providers, Talib Kweli, Tech N9ne, A Tribe Called Quest, Twista, Tyga, Tyler the Creator, Waldo, Will Smith, Wu-Tang Clan, Young MC, 2Pac, 9th Wonder, 50 Cent |
If you're looking for conscious hip-hop, I'd like to put forward my own group for consideration: MODAL.
Lyrically, it is always saying something, whether it be social critique or just generally uplifting. Check it out if it's what you're feeling! It's on iTunes and bandcamp, and look up "MODAL at the Parish Underground" on Youtube. |
Just came across this, excellent middle eastern sort of vibe to it
|
Pretty good.
