I was speaking in general.

Anyway, I couldn't care less how personal an album is. In fact, I generally dislike them more. The only time I really want to hear an artist delve into personal stories is within the context of singer-songwriter material, with genuinely great lyrics.

(obvious exceptions but this is generally speaking)

Absolutely. Also, I really don't understand why some people think MBDTF is "dark". It's like a hip hop version of Glee, pretty much the antithesis of dark.

So to conclude, MBDTF is overrated?

lol

The only dark moments I can really imagine are "Runaway," which was a standout track for me and showed a truly relentless self awareness on Kanye's behalf, and the Gil Scott Heron slam at the very end. But all of the album's premises were either overblown or unapparent, really.

While it is excellent in its production and has a few really good verses (even from Rick Ross' overrated ass), it doesn't nearly live up to the hype it was assigned. Personally speaking, of course.

Yeah that's pretty much what I think it'd be like.

I don't get why Kanye West is so hyped, he's just not that good

MF Doom, Kool Keith and Del The Funky Homo are some of the most innovative and underrated MCs to ever do it. Madlib's first Quasimoto album was a classic as well.

The dude has a great ear for music. He can make a radio hit that still has a lot of substance and artistic integrity.

I can give you artistic integrity, as I firmly believe Kanye West does as he wishes, but not substance.

Compare Kanye to most of the other mainstream hip hop right now and tell me he doesn't have substance

Sure if compare him to GZA or Aesop Rock, he doesn't look that good, but how about modern mainstream hip hop?
