It was heavily sampled like every other album he has made, he just used a few more dark textures, but that only works if you write dark songs. Just a boring experience.

MBDTF is much more of a personal album than any other Kanye album yet, so if you don't care about hearing Kanye's social problems and ideas, you won't latch onto MBDTF, or at least, that's how I see it.

It's also supposed to be a concept album and was hailed as Prog Hop, but it's only bound by cohesion, which has to be combined with a unity of sound throughout (which it mostly lacks) and the assumed "fantastical" nature of the whole thing, but that idea falls apart quickly. There is a little dabbling with motifs on the album, like the recurrent French ballet or whatever it is that comes up on Power and the last two tracks.
Pretty much, people made it out to be way bigger and smarter than what it was, and I think that's Kanye's masterful marketing in play (which it still is). What sucks is masterpieces from cats like Shabazz Palaces get undermined in the shadow of this faux-colossus' shadow.

Seriously, MBDTF is much more focused on his life than any other album, especially Late Registration and College Dropout. |
