I really don't see it. Don't get me wrong, I love Illmatic, and it is one of my favourite albums, but I think there quite a few that are better.

In general. I would say it's a close second by Nas behind Stillmatic.

Name some debut albums made by an 19 year kid, that are still regarded as canon in hip hop, and that are better/have as many mindblowing tracks as Illmatic... Its place in musical history is undeniable, there hasn't been a debut made since that has even touched it in terms of being lyrically, musically, and ideologically influential to this day.

I don't think you can discount how ground breaking and outstanding Nas's debut was.
It's a major album in the genre, and to me still signifies Nas's best work.
Not to say that his other albums aren't good, they just don't match the quality of his first.

My favourite Nas releases are as follows;

Illmatic
Distant Relatives (With Damian Marley)
I Am...The Autobiography
It Was Written
Stillmatic
Hip Hop Is Dead
Untitled Album
Nastradamus

Not actually heard the other two, so can't comment.

No point you bring up there has any influence on where Illmatic should be placed in terms of my favourite Hip Hop albums ever.

And both Labor Days and Fantastic Damage are better debut albums.

First of all, this is what I'm responding to. Secondly, how is Labor Days a debut? Aesop put out Float and had an underground release in the late 90's before that too if I remember correctly. If you're saying that in your opinion they're better albums that's fine, but I don't believe that either Aesop or El-P are on the same level of Nas in terms of talent or production.

Sorry to say but that looks more like the list of members of D12 than the good rappers... You got Em and Jay-z right but thats all. If you made it in that way Eminem should be at the top of the list for sure
