MTV's become such a joke (more than it used to anyway). I shouldn't really be able to make fun cause I've only seen it like, once, but whatever.

Lupe Fiasco made a mixtape inspired by the fact that he was left off the MTV top MC list.

I'm new to this whole deal so I may not be of much help, but I'll say that A Tribe Called Quest is a great choice for me.

Jay-Z Reasonable Doubt/The Blueprint
Notorious BIG - Ready to Die/Life After Death
Nas - Illmatic
Dr. Dre - The Chronic/2001
Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle

If you want something different than a lot of the underground mentioned, try Curren$y - This Ain't No Mixtape or any of his other mixtapes he has. All good listening...

I think Kanye West has some great music. "Heartless", & "Love Lockdown" on 808s & Heartbreak CD. "Gold Digger" from Late Registration. I think his rhythms and melodies are probably hip-hop category, but crosses over to others.

Imagine it cleaned up, with a voice like Usher, and you could hear it in an elevator one day!
