Bringing him up because I just got the Return to the 36 Chambers album and I find it absolutely hillarious and charming, but the way I find The Joker off Batman funny - in a sort of he's nobody to mess with kind of way.

Sad about his death, but the man was a raving lunatic so you know it was to happen at one point.

But then again, was he a raving lunatic? Some have made the assertion that ODB was simply in character. I personally don't buy it because his behavior seemed far too self-destructive.

Discuss.

I'm with you haha.

Though whether it was flat-out mental instability or the drugs he was taking is anybody's guess.

Wow, he looks really high in that video. Gotta love the eye connection though.

I love return to the 36 chambers and I have to agree, he must of been bat **** insane to make that album. However It might just of been acting as I noticed on wutang group releases he is much more "subdued"

I watched the WU in concert a couple times and it would have been every more nuts if ODB was there too!!

He's the 'real deal' in that he was probably legitimately insane.

Those Wu classics just wouldn't be the same without his off-kilter lunacy, but on his own, it's a little much for me. I think his style works far better within a framework of 'normalcy' so to speak.

Its neck and neck between ODB and GZA for which one of the Wu Tang members is my favorite. Ol' Dirty Bastard's Return to 36 Chambers was one heckuva album. I think its fairly overlooked by fans (of Wu's solo albums.) because of Liquid Swords and Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... however I think Return to 36 Chambers is right there with those two albums and deserves more credit. I might be off about the fact the album and artist are underrated but that's just from personal experience.

Agreed. Any good gang needs a member that's a little off the rails. He's got some of the most entertaining & original flowz.

It's unfortunate that some of the later stuff was obviously pieced together in pro tools; but you can't hold it against him. He lived it to the max.
