Change my mind about...
This is a bit of a posting game, so this might not be the best spot, but it mainly pertains to rap, so I think it will fit in here. Here is how it goes....
Person 1, names a rapper he doesn't like but is open minded to like, and person 2 posts three videos that he thinks will change person 1's opinion about the rapper. Person 2 than says the name of a rapper he doesn't like but is open to giving a chance, and the next poster does the same. Poster 1 can come back and state if the videos changed his mind or not, up to first poster. To be perfectly honest, I was originally making this thread "Change my mind about lil wayne, and its purpose was to ask people to post me lil wayne songs that might make me respect him, but I decided to make it something everyone could use to discover new hip hop, or at least attain a better grip on it. So yeah, poster 2(Possibly you), change my mind about like Wayne!

As far as lyrical content goes Lil wayne isn't all that great, but it's his style and the way that he plays with the timing and "texture" of his delivery that really sets him apart from other rappers. Sure he's ghetto as ****, but I like him. He seems to be overrated by those that don't know **** about hip-hop and underrated by those that do.

Edit: ok so it is. I tried to think of an MC I don't like and now the only one that comes to mind is Tupac. Any takers? |

Please don't make this a chain thread. Just post a rapper if you actually are trying to get into one, it'll make for a more productive thread.
Lil' Wayne Lil' Wayne is tough to enjoy because he's pretty inconsistent and doesn't seem to have found his niche. It's not that a conceptual rapper is always good, but Lil' Wayne hasn't found his style. That doesn't really make him bad, but it means finding his best is tough. Something about him is just weird and different, though. He's scattered and difficult to predict. Granted, I don't like listening to him at all. I'm not into his croak of a voice, and sometimes he tries to get away with some of the worst puns I've heard in my life. Particularly ones regarding shit. "Baby I'm the shit, and that's all you smell around me." Really, Wayne? Sometimes he has cool lyrics, though. "I am sittin' on the clouds I got smoke coming from my seat I can play basketball with the moon I got the whole world at my feet." Underground hip hop fanatics are just acting like he's the face of everything wrong with hip hop. He's not great at all, but he's not HORRIBLE like everyone really wants him to be. SATCHMO, if you'd like something like this about 2pac, I'm more than willing. |

If you're actually interested in finding a spot for 2pac, try listening to him in doses. Yeah, he's not that great, and I'm the last person to defend 2pac, but if you listen to him at the right time, it works. If you're in the mood for, like, sound rap (rap you can listen to and focus is irrelevant), then try throwing on a song or two by him. Personally, I like Me Against The World. He's just basic midtempo gangsta rap with no real ideas, and yeah, his delivery is really stiff.
You've probably heard any songs I'd suggest, so I don't know if I should bother. Just give him listens in small, small doses, and when you just feel like having sound on. His voice is pretty gripping, and a lot of the beats he's on sound nice. That's all you need for sound rap. |
