Kid Cudi

His album, Man On The Moon: The End Of Day, dropped today. I'm giving it a listen with an open mind- didn't get into "Day 'N' Nite" when it came out, so I have some catching up to do...

likuidcoka 09-15-2009 08:01 PM

I like ECho and that MIx he did with that weIrdo, Lady GaGa.

pourmeanother 09-15-2009 08:08 PM

Common-- the next Morgan Freeman in the voiceover business.

EDIT: And I'm not saying that because he's black.

EDIT^2: Got through a full spin, and I really like it. Damn, how lonely can one guy be? Reminds me of Lupe's mainstream debut- some catchy singles, solid front-to-back, repeat listening value.

Kirby 09-15-2009 09:03 PM

I bought it today.
It's a damned amazing album.
I love it.

Rickenbacker 09-15-2009 09:35 PM

I listened to it, then read a review that the New York Times did. They were really spot on.

Check out the review here

One part I thought was particularly accurate:

Quote:

This album needs something solid: not a Common, who delivers preposterous, artless voice-over narration throughout, or even a Kanye West. What it needs is a Kid Cudi.
Those of you who've heard it probably understand the predicament.

dollarsandcents 09-17-2009 07:36 AM

Just putting this on my iPod then I'll give it a proper listen. Not heard much from this album so it'll all hopefully be new, unless he's recycled a lot of stuff from this mixtape earlier int he year, then I might have heard some of it. Hoping it's as good as I'm expecting.

It's been a disappointing year for hip hop in my opinion, aside from a few good releases. Hopefully Cudi and Wale can turn things around, and Dizzee Rascal if any of y'all are familiar with him in the USA.

Kirby 09-17-2009 10:57 AM

^

I'm excited for the Wale, and I plan on checking out the Dizzee Rascal album. his last one was pretty good.

Wale got pushed back to weeks, so it comes out the week after Tech N9ne's new release.

dollarsandcents 09-17-2009 11:07 AM

Wow, after one listen I'm speechless. Breath of fresh air. Much needed.

A whiff of 808's, which is great with me (I liked it) and lots of great spacey beats and layed back rhymes. Great sound overall in my opinion, I even really like the Poker Face sample produced by Kanye. I'll give it another listen later.

Definitely up there with the best hip hop releases this year, although I may be a little biased after only listening once. I'm just listening to Q-Tip's long-delayed Kamaal The Abstract album now, and it's also amazing! Just after starting to lose faith with hip hop recently, along come these two great new albums in the same day.

QuickDime 09-17-2009 11:32 AM

This is the first place I have heard postive things, I took a listen to the snippets and wasn't impressed......Might have to reconsider.

djchameleon 09-18-2009 02:14 PM

I have listened to this album repeatedly over the last couple of days and the stand out tracks for me are....

Cudi zone, pursuit of happiness, sky might fall and soundtrack to my life.

This album is great to just listen to in a dark room and space out because of the production from Ratatat.

Jason86 09-19-2009 08:19 AM

Kid Cudi can't rap, sing, or write lyrics, and Common's narration is corny, but I like everything else about the album.

Bucket Foot 09-19-2009 08:13 PM

I like the idea of Kid Cudi's album being great and will have to have another listen. It was not bad and much better than Jay-Z's BP3 but didn't really get into any of it. I think he'll have better down the road.

Scarlett O'Hara 09-20-2009 06:38 AM

Loving him. This song is on my mind so much:

chris45 09-28-2009 11:26 AM

+1 :d

I pretty much love this album. Some really catchy, calm stuff on here. Pursuit of Happiness with MGMT and Ratatat is my favorite, I can listen to that song for hours. Soundtrack 2 My Life and Alive are also great songs.

One of my favorite albums this year so far along with Blueprint 3 and Swoon.

abdullah424 10-15-2009 10:58 PM

I downloaded this but haven't gave it a listen yet. Guess i better check it out. Did not know Ratata had anything to do with this album or I would've listened sooner

Captain Awesome 10-18-2009 08:02 AM

Far from being a good rapper but still quite a strong entertainer, will probably be very successful. It's good to hear a mainstream rapper who doesn't make music about their millions of green, their super ho's and their guns and spinning rims ect.

David180sx 01-18-2010 10:29 PM

What do you think about Kid Cudi??

I like him but not as much as I use to..I really liked his mixtapes they were really dope. I don't think he should of whent commercial though.

Fast Frankie 01-19-2010 12:23 AM

well I really like Day and Night. What else should I look for?

Why don't you think he should have gone commercial?

Shabz 01-20-2010 08:58 PM

He's simply amazing, from A kid Named Cudi, to A man on the moon, and all his freestyles.

gogojessicat 01-23-2010 12:09 AM

really surprised i liked this. even Make Her Say surprised me.

lucky 02-26-2010 01:31 AM

I cant stand Kid cudi. Day and night killed it for me.

Loose_control 02-27-2010 08:31 AM

Kid Cudi is like one of the coolest rappers. I'm glad he's doing his own thing. He's not worried about sounding like everyone else, he's the man because he's himself.

Loose_control 02-27-2010 08:32 AM

P.S. Everyone hating on day night, you know he wrote that song 2 years before it ever released. Check the Crooker remix of Day and Night

FETCHER. 02-28-2010 12:31 PM

I like Kid Cudi, but I deteste Day 'N' Night. It's too chirpy and annoying :(

VampireWeekend 02-28-2010 09:13 PM

Kid Cudi dropped my favorite album of 2009. It was so good. I actually think the singles are the weakest songs on the album. My favorites are "Soundtrack To My Life" "Enter Galactic" "Heart of a Lion" and "Hyyer."

Can't wait for new material!

Sincerely Yours 03-08-2010 01:33 PM

So. Not gonna lie, I thought I was going to hate it, but I kind of absolutely love it.

rage-x 04-29-2010 01:23 AM

lmao...

despite that... i think his best track is Soundtrack 2 my life. Deff. like him alot more than alot of other mainstream artists.

rage-x 04-30-2010 09:33 AM

what so funny about that, he rapped about dating amanda bynes in cudderisback

Kirby 04-30-2010 11:26 AM

It's funny, because who he's dating is irrelevant.

rage-x 04-30-2010 06:38 PM

well if hes dating someone famous and not a civilian it really says something about how big hes gotten

Kirby 05-01-2010 10:15 PM

If you're famous, you're still a civilian. And, no, it doesn't. There are famous people that date people no one has ever heard of.

Scarlett O'Hara 05-01-2010 10:18 PM

Come on, someone must love this song, it's so 90's background music:

Well, that was one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

Why? Seems pretty irrelevant to me.

Thewebsetter 05-05-2010 05:27 PM

Now my question is DRAKE or KID CUDI. Who has the best all around skills. ?

Nevermind. My mistake, and I feel pretty dickish for that one. I just read page 4 where the guy said Cudi rapped about dating Amanda Bynes, and then I read Kirby's post saying, "It's funny, because who he's dating is irrelevant." Seemed like he was criticizing Cudi for rapping about whoever he was in a relationship with, not telling the guy why his previous question (which I'd not read) was funny.

My bad, Kirby.

nylonsmile 05-08-2010 06:18 PM

Kid Cudi..... all-around, I'm a huge fan. I have loved everything I've heard so far, and Man on the Moon has been one of my most-played albums since I decided to give a listen months and months ago. I think he's very talented, clever, and refreshingly different than some other mainstream artists who I sometimes feel can easily be mixed up. To me, he stands apart. Favorite track off of Man on the Moon is probably Enter Galatic....I just love that song. Relating-wise, I can relate to a lot of what is mentioned in Soundtrack 2 My Life.....it's actually what first caught my attention when I accidentally came across the track on youtube, and then led to me downloading the entire album for a listen. I didn't realize he was the same dude with "Day N' Nite" either, heh.....which happens to be my least favorite track of his.

But yes, I am very interested in seeing where he goes from here. He has my attention.
