Is Rap/Hip-hop even music?

Okay, now when I go places I hear people say that they think rap/hip hop isn't music;its just a bunch of words put together with a beat. Yes, I do listen to this genre, but I'm having a hard time finding artists that I like..I don't like the heavy rap music(if you know what I mean)Now is there anyone that has any advice,know any good artists I may enjoy,or even songs?

So pretty much the basic question was "Do you think Rap/hip hop is music?" and plus the help of giving me some good songs to listen to or artists
