Turntablism
Turntablism is a genre of hip hop where the djs are more important than the mcs, or the djs are just used more than normal. For History Of Turntablism Turntablism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia go to that link. A lot turtablism isn't that good unless your seeing it live (in my opinion) such as "The Invisibl Skratch Piklz". Other Turntablist make music made to be enjoyable on cd such as "Kid Koala" Or "Dj Q-bert". Turntablism Is definitely a acquired taste but once Understood is great. A couple Turntable Bands Dj-Qbert Rob Swift Kid Koala Cut Chemist Mix Master Mike Beat Junkies I think that turntablism should have its own genre because I think that real turntable bands don't sound anything like hip hop.

Original Hip hop was cutting and pasting music though so I would still class it as Hip Hop personally.

Making music by mixing samples, and any other form of prerecorded sounds which were not specifically created by the person mixing it, to me is hip-hop (unless the music isn't really being altered from its original form, in which case its just generic DJing and not really part of any genre). If the sound is electronically produced by the use of computer programs or synthesizers I would consider it to be electronica.
although that is a pretty loose definition since people may do both.

Edit: I'm not saying a jazzman can't have interest in hip-hop, either. Hmm.. maybe I should change my vote? Last edited by Engine; 06-19-2009 at 06:56 PM. |

Yes but no matter how far you deviate regarding your sources the basic principles are the same as original hip hop which combined splicing beats and then applying social commentary over the top. It's a form of hip hop and people seem to think that if there is no rapping then it's not hip Hop when many early tracks were instrumental splicings. BTW the last sentence was general and not regarding your post!

The reason i put electronica in my poll was because on my itunes kid koala is classified under electronica. I was curious to see how many votes it would get and so far none

i tunes is the yardstick we should measure our tastes at? The whole point of forums like this is to be proud of our non conformity.
