Female Rap

I don't know about you all, but most of my collection is dedicated to the ladies true to the game. They're out there proving that they can go as hard as the guys. My top 10 Rap Ladies are:
1.Missy Elliott
2.Shawnna
3.Rasheeda
4.Trina
5.Lil' Kim:jailed:
6.Lisa Left Eye Lopes (R.I.P girl)
7.Queen Latifah (before she went all jazz)
8.Foxy Brown:jailed:
9.Remy Ma:jailed:
10.Khia
Let me know what you think. the jailed think is for the bad girls that went behind bars

Props on the original thread idea, but want to make an intro thread, too? I'm not much for anyone on that list but Lil' Kim. Her albums have some good beats and she's perverted as hell. Love it. I've not heard anything from her in awhile though. Is her latest still La Bella Mafia?

Kirby 05-29-2009 07:07 PM

I cant take your list seriously.
No disrespect.

Where's Jean Grae?
Where's MC Lyte?

LoathsomePete 05-29-2009 07:17 PM

Dessa Darling is pretty decent, however her stuff tends to sound like a mixture of Ani DiFranco with a hip hop beat, but hip hop is poetry so I feel that counts.

Alexandrah from Solillaquists of Sound is absolutely amazing, I've been trying to find out if she has any solo stuff but to no avail. She has a beautifully unique voice that has power to it.

^ Yeesss, Jean Grae is amazing, nearly as good as it gets. Her stuff with Blue Sky Black Death is absolutely fantastic, if I wanted to be a rapper I would totally model my career after her.

Eminem

MURDER JUNKIE 05-30-2009 07:22 AM

Female rap is like the Women's NBA

Slower
Not as creative
Far less interesting

simplephysics 05-30-2009 07:35 AM

Oh man, how could I forget about Queen Kong and You're Only Massive?

They're a pair of Irish wannabe emcees with no formal training at all which is very telling in their music, but what they come up with is hilarious.
A bit of a guilty pleasure kind of duo.

Shoe 05-30-2009 08:52 AM

I haven't heard a lot but I like how Nellie Mckay will rap at times and it sounds pretty cool.

Mmm Great choice. She is featured in my favorite Immortal Technique song "You Never Know".

That's her? The girl who sings at the chorus?

yep, she's also the one that sings with him when he's reading the letter.

333 05-30-2009 12:18 PM

^ I love that song and was just listening to it yesterday. I cried the first time I heard it. Jean Grae has an amazing voice. What else does she do?

LoathsomePete 05-30-2009 12:27 PM

Jean Grae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

She also rescues kittens from trees and performs In vitro fertilization on cows in her off time.

Thank you, kindsir.

lol that's pretty much my list with the additions of Ivy queen even though she's in reggaeton

Oh and I can't forget about Rah Digga even though she sounds like a man most of the time.

Never heard of Ivy Queen, I'll have to check her out. I'll probably like her since we have similar taste.

Surell 06-27-2009 11:06 PM

lol at Bambr. There's gotta be some cold female rappers out there. MIA, for instance. and Chanelle from Fantasy Factory.

You are probably looking in the wrong places. There are a lot of sick female rappers out there who are better than the guys.

Yoni 07-03-2009 12:58 AM

Invincible.

I think Empress Stahhr flows better than most people who are rapping today.

As If It Existed - Solillaquists of Sound

Alexandrah from hip hop group Soillaquists of Sound is extremely talented, she needs to put out a solo album.

Ereez 07-11-2009 10:36 PM

There are a lot of good female rappers and they deserve their fame, but I'm still waiting for someone amazing. Someone that can just grab you by the ears with her sound and style. There are plenty of mediocre artists. Give me an icon.

If she has her own channel, link me. She's still not iconic, but she is damn good.

Kirby 07-11-2009 11:36 PM

I don't think she has her own channel.

Her name's Dessa.
She's part of the Doomtree collective.

I'm not sure if I should post here since it's also international music, but I guess it's fine since they're also rappers. If you're willing to listen, y'all should check out two Korean female rappers. One's Tasha and the other's CL.

I can't post youtube clips since I'm new but for tasha go to youtube & type in 'best female rapper in korea' &for cl you should see her on that same page. It'd say something like 2ne1's CL.

QuickDime 09-17-2009 11:30 AM

How in the hell is the Lady Of Rage not even mentioned in this thread, always think of her intro on Doggystyle.

dollarsandcents 09-17-2009 11:34 AM

I like Lauryn Hill and Lil' Kim, probably the best in my opinion, although I've not been exposed to that much, aside from the odd featuring on an album. I'm not sure if you'd include M.I.A. or Uffie as female rappers, I suppose they are in a way but not in the classical definition.

Not sure if anyone here has heard of Speech Debelle. She's a young MC from the UK who recently won the Mercury Music Prize, she's got an album which is largely composed of jazzy beats with her over the top of them. Quite a nice debut album and worth checking out.

I'm looking forward to Kid Sister's album alter this year too!

~LK~ 09-21-2009 05:47 AM

I like Shawnna. Check out her verse in Tech N9ne's "Wheaties". She's got a nice flow. Best I've heard from a female rapper. Eve is also a personal favorite of mine, even if she doesn't do anything these days.

86 Position 09-21-2009 07:35 AM

Eternia - out of Canada.

right now, Eternia is one of the best MCs period, forget tagging "female" infront of "emcee".

I'd post a link but I'm pretty sure I'm still on the noob probation period, so just google her myspace. She's really intelligent

She is for sure the best out of the new class.

Looking forward to her collab album with Luda.

I just wanted to say thanks, Invincible - Shapeshifters is completely awesome. I know nothing of rap, just came to this thread with an open mind. Where do I go from here?
