Well I finally got around to listening to "Relapse" and I don't want to hate it, but it really didn't have a profound effect on me like "The Eminem Show" or "Encore" did. It wasn't bad, but I think the reason why his earlier ones did was because they were really the only hip hop albums that I had and since 2004 I've really expanded my hip hop collection and knowledge. I'll have to give it another listen through headphones before I can really give a full review, I did like the songs Underground, Beautiful, Deja Vu, and Must Be The Ganja though.
Edit: I listened to "Encore" last night after "Relapse" and it really started to make sense to me. "Relapse" was the continuation of "Encore" which had far more in the way of "joke songs" on it than "The Eminem Show" did. After I came to that realization, the album really began to make sense to me, I listened to "Relapse" expecting it to be like "The Eminem Show" and what I thought "Encore" was like. After listening to "Relapse" again in the same mind set that I use to listen to "Encore" I really enjoyed the album.

Mate played this in the car the other day...
I was like an 'Eminem' album... 'Surely this is going to last minute rubbish'. How wrong I was, this is probably one of his darkest albums to date. Although maybe not as 'hardcore' as his early day stuff, the work behind this Album has really dominated whats come out in hip hop recently. On top of that this is an excellent tribute to the late 'Proof' an album I'm sure he would have been proud of. |

Well somehow Em got into it with Nick Cannon (as if that's worthwhile). It was probably over something Em said about Mariah. I mean, that's my uneducated guess.

It started with a small line in bagpipes from baghdad.
At first Nick Cannon was so offended that he said he was going to release a diss track against Em but then he took it back. I guess with Obsessed Mariah is trying to say that she didn't like Em at all. She makes it seem like he's still hung up over their little fling or w/e relationship they had. That's how you come to Warning. I love that he put the phone conversations and her voice near the end of it saying how much she likes him. |
