It just sounds like a typical hip hop beat, there's nothing special about it. It's a piano sample, a drum machine and a synth. Honestly sounds like a song that Ludacris or P. Diddy would make, but with some decent raps. I don't really listen to hip-hop for the rapping, that's just an added bonus, I listen to hip-hop to hear excellent production that doesn't perpetuate the stereotype that rap requires no musical talent.

I'm similar a large majority of the time but I don't go listening to an eminem track and expecting to hear excellent production. I don't tend to focus on the beat so much when it comes to Em. I know where he excels and I concentrate on his lyricism.

^ This.

Eminem hasn't had many tracks with 5* production. Stan is the only one that really stands for me, tbh.

Yeah, he's never really been big on production, but couldn't he at least have thought of something better than that whiney synth (?) that plays during the chorus? (and then after the first chorus) It's intrusive and doesn't add anything to the song.

I mean it's obviously old school Manson inspired but is it a rip off? I don't think it is. I think he's paying homage to Manson and just trying to make kick ass music like Manson used to.

So yeah they have to expand but the question is why I guess. Why do we need someone like Davey Suicide to make kick ass old school style Manson music? Why doesn't Manson?
You know why Manson doesn't make old school type stuff of his music? As a musician he has moved on creatively so why would you go back in time and do the same old thing again? As an artist , I wouldn't do that at all but I do understand why fans kind of want it/expect it. Even Danny Brown mentioned it on his album but he did some fan service and decided to please his old fans by having the first half of the album for them and then the second part of it for his newer fans and having a more commercial angle to bring in more new fans.

If you really listen to everything that he did lyrically with the double timing and changing his flow so many different ways. The track doesn't need a complicated beat because that's not the focus of it. You are supposed to focus on him giving bars and showing off his skill to be able to change up and demonstrate all the ways you can change your flow.

He does have skill on the mic, no doubt. I just don't dig his persona, or his content, and I think there are MCs who have as much skill and some of them have a better persona to boot.

any other rap fans go to rapgenius alot?? i go there all the time to help understand lyrics. hit it up if you are somehow unaware. lots of subtle disses from a lot of artists that go over my head when just casually listenin

i dont like his persona either and im not really sure what it is lol. like in that college football interview where hes acting all spaced out or whatever

I do every now and then, but they can be pretty obvious most of the time if it's not a diss song (or song laced with disses) like this is. And by persona I mean more of how he presents himself as a rapper, or what narratives he takes on. I really don't know much about his actual personality, but the kind of character he presents on the track is what i really can't engage with. You think he's pilled up again maybe though?

This is a Marshall Mathers LP. He isn't presenting a persona/character. Just giving straight bars.
