Best Hip Hop singles so far for me would be A Milli, Get Like Me, Lollipop Remix (the one that has the Shawty Say part in it, but not David Banner, I think), and some others. I kinda gave up on the radio. |
I agree with Surell. Webbie and Flo Rida are, in my opinion, pretty bad. They are your classic one hit wonders, throw in a couple fancy beats and repetative, yet catchy lyrics and you've got yourself a superstar. I read a revriew about Flo Rida in the newspaper and they called him the King of Ring Tones and frankly I think that is a perfect description, catchy enough to be popular, yet not good enough to leave a lasting impression in the Hip-Hop community.
My favourite album this year would have to be The 3rd World by Immortal Technique, favourtie track, either The 3rd World or Rebel Arms. |
Speaking of leaving an impression on the Hip Hop Community, I think the Carter 3 did that pretty well.

Agreed, unfortunately, the more radio friendly songs have made it the biggest, although there is nothing wrong with A Milli and Lollipop, there are as good if not better tracks on Tha Carter 3 that go overlooked...

I thought A Milli was a damn good track, probably my favorite on the album, because of how raw it was. And Lollipop was good too, just my least favorite on the album. The whole album is gold to me.

I completely disagree. This has not been a particularly hot year for hip hop at all. Records have been overly long and laboured, often half constructed of pointless filler. Most albums I've heard (that includes about 85% of the albums mentioned in this thread) have for the most part been boring and have just played it safe, ending up not necessarily bad, but just unspectacular and mediocre.
I feel one of the best albums that has come out was P's HNIC pt.2, and even that wasn't particularly great on the whole. It just had some superb mixing by The Alchemist (who is clearly the most talented producer in the game). I'm both amazed, baffled and quite sad that anybody could genuinely consider 2008 to be a great year for hip-hop. Hell, it hasn't really been a particularly fantastic year for any genre of music that I listen to. Wake up, smell the coffee dudes. Last time hip-hop had a great year was 2006. |
I've actually enjoyed listening to the rap/hip-hop/r&b stations this year so I'd have to agree.
This also may be caused by my increase in clubbing, but then again the increase in good music could cause that too. '08s been good to us. |

Just wondering. |
I really dig Kanye's new single Love Lockdown. I hope it'll be on his new album, then I might pick it up. Also, Swagger Like Us is probably the best collab in awhile.
This needed revival dawg. |
