I just got Tha Carter III: it is one of the best gangster rap albums I've ever heard, without a doubt.
I'm not a huge fan of gangster rap outside of Big L, N.W.A. and Tupac, but Lil' Wayne's delivery in this album is just staggering. I would have to say all the "catchier, less creative" songs are the four that made it top 10/20 ("A Milli", "Lollipop", etc.), but the other songs on the album are just ****ing awesome. His flow, figurative language, and attitude is exemplary. It's funny too how much it reminds me of Tupac's work; especially "I'm Me". I definitely give this album an 8.5/10. If you have the means of obtaining it, I highly recommend it.

lil wayne is not gangster rap in fact he's far from it. i'd best describe it as dance rap (songs that make the ladies get a little crazy on the dance floor) lyrically it's nothing too exceptional at all. if you just want something with a decent beat it's not bad though.

Bullshit Wayne isn't gangster rap, and if anything, he's not dance rap.

Quote from "Mr. Carter":
"All my bloods scream 'Suwoop' and 'Da da doe'." "A Milli": "My glock sick" "Tony told us this world was ours" "Bitch I can turn a crack rock into a mountain" I mean that's just a couple lines, but it's pretty obvious that he draws a lot of his material from gangster rap. Yeah, a lot of his songs are made to dance to, but you have to consider the lyrics as well.

I'm serious, though.
So many people make fun of him because of that. If you're gangster, and someone runs up to your Escalade, and they don't even have a weapon. Do you make your bodyguard get out of the escalade?
