GZA's the only one whose solo work I continue to enjoy. So I chose him. Although, I've heard great things about Ghostface's stuff so I'm gonna have to check him out.

Blazed And Confused 10-01-2009 05:15 PM

gfk for sure.

Molecules 10-01-2009 05:20 PM

whaaat

Anyway I chose Method Man, because I am fond of his solo work.

SATCHMO 10-14-2009 09:31 PM

Dirt McGirt. C'mon peeps. No one else comes close.

Grotesque Head 10-15-2009 09:23 AM

I voted ages ago and can't remember who for (I think it might of been ODB), but I've changed my mind - Ghostface gets my vote, followed by GZA.

Na it ended up just being an interview. In the commercial they must've shown an old clip of Colbert rapping when they mentioned he would be "rapping" with the RZA.

The Colbert Report Full Episode | Wednesday Oct 14 2009 | Comedy Central

check it out. it starts at around 17 minutes.

someonecompletelyrandom 10-15-2009 11:19 AM

^Thanks!

BTown 10-15-2009 01:06 PM

Yeah I watched the interview last night, it was mostly about RZA's new book "the Tao of Wu" apparently it's his take on life.

Inuzuka Skysword 10-15-2009 03:28 PM

Raekwon is the best hands down. His flow is one of my favorites and he is the best lyricist of Wu-Tang. I think my favorite member is RZA because he is my favorite producer.

overdoser 10-15-2009 03:29 PM

Poor Masta Killa..........

no one likes masta killa :P :P

Macneil1 10-19-2009 11:13 AM

Raekwon

86 Position 10-19-2009 05:43 PM

only 4 votes for raekwon.

poor guy.

FaSho 10-19-2009 06:05 PM

1. GZA
2. Ghostface
3. Inspectah Deck
4. ODB

Would be my top four, tbh I really don't care for Method Man.

Good list - but why the MM hate? Is it because he is the most marketable of all the Wu and decided to sell out and wear solid black contact lenses and participate in dumbass TV shows? If so, I can understand. But, really, his first solo album is a real stand-out, a classic as good as the other good solos. Also, his raps on the 36 Chambers are worth all of the $$ Wu Tang ever made.

Inuzuka Skysword 10-19-2009 07:01 PM

I think Method Man is the most fun out of all the Wu-Tang. Ol' Dirty can get a bit annoying after awhile. Method Man's flow reminds me of a more moderate version of Ol' Dirty. Method occasionally adds singing to his flow and the way he works the inhale in his flow makes it catchy as hell.

Lyrically, I don't find Method Man to be that strong.

jacklovezhimself 10-27-2009 05:55 PM

Method definitely has the best flow out of the group, while it seems like everyone else is really pissed off. It can be a song about killing everyone and Method can spit it like poetry.

Kirby 11-02-2009 09:14 PM

1. Method Man
2. Ol Dirty Bastard
3. Ghostface Killah
4. Inspectah Deck
5. RZA

ebakez 11-02-2009 09:25 PM

this is actually one of the toughest decisions ive had to make in a long time.

off the top of my head:
1.method
2.rza
3.gza
4.odb
5.raekwon

Thewebsetter 11-05-2009 05:43 PM

imma go with Raekwon on this, then RZA then Methodman. Say something!! Heard that Purple tape 2 yet?

Sparky 11-16-2009 03:15 PM

"Only Built 4 Cuban Linx pt 2" is maybe my favorite hip hop album this year.

Changing my vote to Raekwon.

Axiomatic Wiki 11-22-2009 01:31 PM

Going by their solo works I would have to go with either Ghost or the Gza. Going by their work in the clan, Ghost or Inspectah.

My least favorite when it comes to their work as an MC is easily the Rza, not to say he isn't talented, just that his skills lie elsewhere. Although, his flow in Protect ya Neck is sick.

I like Meth, Dirty, and Ugod, they were great for adding a lot of flavor into the mix, but on a lyrical level I would not compare them to Ghost, Rza, Rae, or Inspectah.

chuylal 11-23-2009 10:26 PM

Big Baby Jesus, of course

Chris32794 11-26-2009 03:42 AM

Odb I find his voice unique and sounds badass

KillerBee 02-17-2010 03:31 PM

Nice thread

I'm always surprised at how many people rank ODB as the best rapper in the Wu. Don't get me wrong, I love that God and RIP, but he ain't close to the best honestly.

1) RZA - Lyrics too deep for comprehension unless you do like a months worth of research to figure out what he's talking about

2) GZA - Lyrics are amazing as well, though not as deep, he's better at metaphors and rap-battle style

3) Deck - Very underrated, nobody kicks a song off better than Deck

4) Ghost - Between his lyrics, storytelling, and stream of consciousness flow

5) Raekwon - Not a big fan of that thick ass NY accent, or his slang, cuz I'm not from NY, but he has very smart lyrics and skilled delivery

6) Meth - That flow....oh my...that flow...like sex to my ears

7) ODB - God rest his soul, super creative, fun, awesome to listen to, sometimes the lyrics aren't too great but his delivery is unmatched

8) Masta Killa - He's like the love child of RZA and GZA

9) U-God - doesn't get enough credit, his flow, rhymes, and delivery are top notch, but he's had some **** songs in his solo career besmerching his name

10) Frukwon & Too Poetic - Gravediggaz technically, but badass nonetheless

Sparky 02-17-2010 05:25 PM

I've always thought GZA's lyrics were mediocre.

someonecompletelyrandom 02-18-2010 11:55 AM

I agree, I don't think Deck gets enough credit. But my vote is still with Meth, crazy good.

Bane of your existence 02-18-2010 03:54 PM

Because this is just the best "rapper" thread, I'm voting based on pure emceeing and wordsmithing. Raekwon.

Erika! 02-18-2010 09:46 PM

Method man <3

Surell 02-18-2010 10:34 PM

I'm really intrigued by all this RZA code hype. I thought he was just sayin some ****, like black people tend to do.

LOL. RZA's the **** man. Check out his lyrics on Twelve Jewelz, The Night the Earth Cried, Dangerous Mindz, Wu World Order, and 4th Chamber for some real tight examples.

He raps about science, history, social philosophies, religion, his own takes on life, the 5% nation, which is all ridiculously deep **** compare to the "i'm a better rapper than you" stuff you normally hear on most of the more mainstream wu-tang songs. He's an amazing poet, up there with the best of all time in my opinion, rapper or not the guy is one of the best poets of all time bar-none.

Protons Electrons Always Cause Explosions
Positive Energy Always Correct Errors

Here's his **** from Twelve Jewelz in case your curious

Quote:

As long as you got mentally dead people
Who are living in a mental death
Meaning living in a mental grave
You need somebody to dig that grave up and bring them back to life
There’s no chance for a physical dead
But there’s chance for the mentally dead
(yo, one two one two two)
So we gonna come and resurrect them
That’s why they call me the ryzarector
I’m out to resurrect the mental dead, by diggin up they graves
Bringin em back to the surface

Niggaz is caught up in the midst of six
You better grab ahold of your crucifix
And this is it, the black God exists
Can you understand this? let me teach you a lesson, yo
The pre-existance of the mathematical biochemical equations
The manifestations of god, earth air fire and water
Which are in it’s basic formation, solid liquid and gases
That caused the land masses, and the space catalyst
And all matter that exists and is dense
Third dimension, that must be observed through physical comprehension
It takes a nerve to be struck, wisdom is the wise
Poet spoken to wake up, the dumb who’ve been sleeping
The fourth dimension is time, it goes inside the mind
Run the chakras energized up through the back of your spine
So observe as my g energy strikes a vital nerve
One swerve of the tongue it pierces like a sword through the lung
Have you not heard, that words kill as fast as bullets
When you load negative thoughts, to the chamber of your brain
And your mouth pulls the trigger that propels
Wickedness straight from hell
From the pits of your stomach where negativity dwell
I searched the east coast and west coast down and most found
The small towns is like ghost towns, everybody moves slowed down
From uptown to bucktown give a **** now shaolin gots the crown
And cops’ll still serve you from jamaica ave. to myrtle
And cats carry more shells than turtles
Brooklyn down park hill pussies unfertile
Buy wholesale never retail get females in deep spells
If you eat well, you sleep well
Send enemies to hell
What makes hair skin epidermis fingernail
Regenerate, when everything else disintegrate
A teflon vest so bullets can’t penetrate
On the corner of my block there stood this old man
A black immigrant from the land of sudan
Who used to tell stories to the children in the building
But never had a dollar to keep his pocket filled in
He bombed he knew deuteronomy the science of astronomy
But didn’t know the basic principles of economy
I say the wise man don’t play the role of a fool
The first thing a man must obtain is twelve jewelz
Knowledge wisdom understanding to help you achieve
Freedom, justice equality food clothing and shelter
After this, love peace and happiness
He had the nappiest head, I told him total satisfaction
Is to achieve one goal in the scheme of things
He who works like a slave, eats like a king
His verse in 4th Chamber is talking about the very first one world government, which I now can't remember the name of...starts with a C...lol

Loose_control 02-25-2010 01:16 AM

GZA is dope. I like Mef but only when he's with Redman. Face always has a cool vibe too. I met him after a show in FL and that dude a pimp. Got the finest breezies

t3hplatyz0rz 02-26-2010 05:15 PM

I'm not that into Wu-Tang, but if I had to choose, I'd say Ol' Dirty Bastard. Just because... he's 'Ol Dirty Bastard. How can you not love him?

Berkeleyboy 02-28-2010 05:09 AM

Without RZA, there is no Wu-Tang. He's the foundation of the whole squad.

True, but I don't think he's the best rapper in Wu-Tang, even if he is the foundation. He is good, though.

Shola Ameobi 02-28-2010 11:58 AM

GZA, Liquid Swords. Nuff said.

Jester 03-02-2010 11:43 PM

I've got to say, I'm pretty surprised at Raekwon's low amount of votes.

anticipation 04-30-2010 01:26 PM

1. GZA
1A. Raekwon
2. Ghost
3. Meth
4. ODB
5. RZA
6. Inspectah Deck
7. Masta Killa
8. U-God

The only difficult part was who ranks first overall; GZA edges Rae based on the strength of Liquid Swords, but Rae's work on Wu-Tang Forever and his verses on Ghost's Ironman are equally mind-blowing.
